USF Bulls 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-16 Football Previews – (AAC) – Bulls

The South Florida Bulls are adrift right now. Blessed to be located in a region with lots of local talent to recruit they were once on a steep trajectory, led by program founding head coach Jim Leavitt. It may seem hard to fathom right now, but back in 2007, they were ranked as high as No. 2 in the AP poll. A few years later they transitioned to Skip Holtz at coach and the program began a process of steady erosion.

MWC 2015-2016 College Football Preview – Bulls

Head Coach:  Willie Taggart
2014 Record:  4-8
Odds to win AAC:  +6600
Win Total:  4

They have had three straight losing seasons and most likely 2015 will be a fourth unless coach Willie Taggart has something special up his sleeve.

The Bulls won four games last season. It was hardly impressive, but better than the two they won the year before.

The AAC is sufficiently light that USF could improve a little and once again slide forward on the win scale but this is still a team with a lot of question marks. At the same time when you look at their schedule I can easily see a return to the two victory mark (and one of those would be of the FCS variety). Taggart is under pressure to get the job done but that doesn’t mean he will.

Strengths

The best player on the team is sophomore running back Marlon Mack. He cracked 1000 yards rushing last season (somehow) and there is every reason to think he can do it again because it is not like he got a ton of help last year.

On defense the Bulls have a player at each level that reminds of the speedy, athletic groups that used to dominate opponents. Linebacker Nigel Harris is like a guided missile out there and more often than not you can find him in the opponent’s backfield. Sometimes he meets defensive end Eric Lee there.

They need to do that more often for the defense to save the day.

Weaknesses

It is never a great situation not knowing who your quarterback is going to be heading into fall camp. Sophomore Quinton Flowers looks like the guy, but his play a year ago hardly indicated that we are about to see something special.

It is fortunate that he is a good athlete because the line protecting him is not likely to be all that dominating. They were among the most inept offenses around last season and unless they can get something going it is going to be hard to turn things around.

They averaged only 17ppg and were ranked in the 100s in most offensive categories. It is kind of unheard of for a team that used to be part of a Major Conference.

2015-16 USF Bulls Prediction: 2-10

Back in the glory days, I used to love USF. Not only were they fun to watch, but often the markets are slow to react to upstarts so they can (and did) deliver tremendous values.

Now they have fallen, and fallen far; they are not even all that competitive in an AAC that is not as challenging as the old Big East.

Heading into this season, the outlook does not look good. I do not have a lot of faith that they are going to be able to right their wrongs on offense and the defense is not going to be the terror it has been at their peak.

After their opening wins against Florida A&M victories are going to be very scarce. It is great that they were able to secure a home and home with Florida State but that game in Tallahassee this season is going to be one of the biggest mismatches we will see unless the entire FSU team is in jail.

USF is likely to be an afterthought when it comes to wagering this season.
