Oklahoma Sooners vs. Florida State Seminoles Preview

Last week OU had the week off and beat Tulsa 47-17 in their opening game and FSU laid a serious 62-10 beat down on Charleston Southern.

Florida State has won 10 of their last 11 home games, but they have lost 5 straight games to Oklahoma.

The Seminoles may have a little revenge in this game, as last season the Sooners killed them 47-17. In that game star OU QB Landry Jones lit up the Noles and in the Sooners’ opener he passed for 375 yards with 1 TD. He has taken some flak in the past couple of seasons for his play on the road and while he is only 3-5 in road games as the starting QB he did win big games against Baylor and Oklahoma State on the road last season.

One major key in this game is the FSU defense. They have only given up 275 yards in their first 2 games, but both of those teams have nowhere near the offense that the Sooners have. DE Brandon Jenkins leads a great Seminoles pass rush that led the nation in sacks last season (48) and already has 7 this season. They have to get to Jones and not let him have a big game through the air.

The Seminoles also have to deal with an Oklahoma rushing offense that ranked up 246 yards on the ground in the win over Tulsa. In that game OU RB Dominique Whaley rushed for 131 yards averaging 7.3 yards per carry and is he has another big game the Seminoles may be in trouble.

FSU EJ Manuel has played well this season and he has a solid WR corps, but the running game is still a worry. RB James Wilder Jr. leads the Noles in rushing yards and while the OU defense is stacked they did give up 129 rushing yards to Tulsa. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Sooners’ run defense may be better now that star DT Stacy McGee is back after serving a 1-game suspension.  Jones also has another weapon at his disposal since starting WR Kenny Stills is also back after a suspension.

The front line D of the Seminoles is key, as if they can play well and keep Jones and company from racking up a ton of yards on offense they have a great chance to pull off the home upset.

FSU vs. OU Betting Trends

Oklahoma has covered the spread in 5 of their last 6 games, but has only covered the spread in 2 or their last 7 games on the road and one in their last 6 games as a road favorite.

FSU has covered the spread in their last 4 non-conference games and they have an Under record of 6-2 in their last 8 home games.

Jason’s Pick: FSU is a better team than they were last season, but the only thing is so is Oklahoma. This game will not be a blowout like last season, but the Sooners will win this game and cover the 3-point spread.
