San Diego State faces an uphill battle at Ohio Stadium against the Buckeyes who dismantled the Buffalo Bulls last weekend, although not as decisively as they could have.

Sure, the Buckeyes played well offensively, racking up 460 yards on their way to posting 40 points, but reminiscent of last season, mishaps forced this game to be closer than it should have been.

The Ohio State defense surrendered more than 250 yards to an anemic Bulls offense, which could give San Diego fans a little glimmer of hope heading into this one.

That’s because the Aztecs’ offense combined for 122 yards on the ground against Eastern Illinois, and if they can get their passing offense going, could make this week’s bout in Ohio at least interesting. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

But much of the team’s success will depend on quarterback Adam Dingwell who threw for 318 yards against the Panthers. However, the junior signal caller also turned the ball over four times in the game — something he cannot do against Ohio or things will get ugly very quickly.

Nevertheless, even if the offense can muster some steam, the San Diego defense will have its hands full with running back Jordan Hall who rushed for 159 yards and two scores on 21 attempts versus Buffalo.

Matt’s free prediction:

I think both teams are better than they showed this past Saturday.

The Aztecs have a solid offense, but turnovers and miscues cost them against the Panthers.

Ohio State on the other hand,  rolled over Buffalo despite their mistakes and miscues. However, if they do the same against the Aztecs, they will be made to pay, as San Diego does have the talent to move the ball against the Buckeyes.

In the end though I expect the Aztecs defense to be the deciding factor, and giving up 533 yards of offense to the Panthers, means that Ohio’s high-octane offense will probably have little problem moving the ball and putting enough points on the scoreboard to improve to 2-0 on the season when the final whistle blows.
