That’s because the Huskers were humiliated after giving up 115 points in loses to Wisconsin and Georgia in their final two games of last season.

In the meantime, the 4-8 Cowboys will just hope to turn in a good performance against a Big Red team in Lincoln.

The Cowboys suffered defensively, all season long a year ago, allowing opponents to average around 475 yards per game. Nearly 250 yards per game, which was surrendered on the ground, ranking the team near the bottom in the country.

That’s going to be a huge problem against a Nebraska squad that has a remarkable ability to move the ball and find the end zone.

And with seven players back from an offensive unit that averaged 253 rushing yards per game and routinely scored with ease, the Huskers are poised to return to national prominence. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Led by dual threat quarterback Taylor Martinez, who threw for right around  2,900 yards and rushed for 1,019 yards, along with leading rusher Ameer Abdullah and three returning receivers,  the Huskers are as potent and dangerous as any team in the conference

Meanwhile, the defense is a bit of a concern, with just four players returning, coupled with the departure of the team’s top five tacklers from 2102.

That could give Wyoming a small opportunity to hang around in this one if its defense can find a way to slow the run.

The Cowboys averaged just under 27 points in 2012, and despite their woes, did have a top 40 passing attack that averaged 265 yards with star quarterback Brett Smith throwing for over 2,800 yards with 27 touchdowns and six interceptions.

And with three of their top four receivers back and nearly all their top runners returning as well, the Cowboys should be able to put some points up on the board.

Matt’s free prediction:

On paper, this one looks like an absolute blowout.

And while I really don’t expect Wyoming to be able to stop Nebraska’s run — unless they turn the ball over more times than they score — I do believe the Cowboys will score some points, keeping this one much closer than the odd makers four touchdown spread.

That’s one touchdown too many points to give in this one.

Nebraska 35 – Wyoming 20
