Another early bowl matchup that will probably be better than a lot of the action as the New Year approaches. The teams have just 5 losses between them and either can put a scare in almost any team in the country.

Toledo
It has been a stellar year for the MAC with Northern Illinois earning the conference’s first BCS bid. Toledo has just three losses on the season all by exactly 7 points so they have been in every game they have played, winning enough to finish second to the Huskies in the MAC West.
They haven’t been a great bet though, going just 7-5 ATS…Last year the Rockets made a 2 quarterback system work but this year Terrence Owens has taken over and succeeded greatly. He is dealing with a foot injury but is expected to be healed up before the bowl game.

Keep an eye on this before you back the Rockets but know that there could be great value with backup QB Austin Dantin if Owens is out. He has a lot of experience in the Rockets potent attack…With such a big number this contest screams underdog.
The only thing that bothers me is how balanced the crowd will be given the distance, and motivation – which I do think will be high because they are getting to try and knock off a ranked opponent.
All signs point Rockets to me.
Utah State
The Utah State Aggies had a fantastic year all the way around. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
They won the WAC with a perfect 6-0 record and were nearly perfect in bettors eyes too with a 10-1-1 ATS mark. Believe it or not they were only 6 points away from a perfect season. No huge wins but a very good season for the state’s “third” team…
I bet you didn’t know that Utah State had the 8th best scoring defense in the nation – 15ppg.
The WAC has traditionally been known for wide open offenses but the conference has changed and the Aggies dominated winning every game but one by 22 points or more. QB Chuckie Keaton developed a nice name for himself along the way putting up some fantastic numbers and memorable plays…With that stellar ATS mark you want to side with Utah State but I wouldn’t run to that number.
The Aggies have only been pushed once over the last couple of months and Toledo should be able hit back and put some points on the board.
I expect this one to be more of a see-saw affair than a dominating effort.
