BYU

As an independent the BYU Cougars play a pretty fair schedule.

They have lost 5 games this season but with the exception of losing the Holy War to Utah they have been to good teams, although who could have guessed that San Jose State, and especially Notre Dame would be so strong this season.

The interesting thing about BYU this year was how they became a defense first team, ranking 5th in the nation in points allowed – 14ppg.  They have some great linebackers that overshadowed the offensive talent but things might have been different for BYU if QB Taysom Hill hadn’t gotten hurt.

His running style gave the offense some life but Riley Nelson is the more experienced option anyway(nice fallback).  BYU is just 6-6 ATS this season including a strong 4-2 against the number on the road.

The game is in the Aztecs backyard so that is what this game will essentially be.

San Diego State

It is safe to say that the Aztecs are on a roll.

After losing their MWC opener to Fresno State they rattled off 7 straight wins, including impressive road victories against Nevada and Boise State.  6 of those 7 victories were ATS wins too and now they get to host a bowl game against a familiar opponent.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

Sounds like a pretty good situation for backing San Diego State…One of the things that is super impressive about the Aztecs current run is that they are doing it without starting QB Ryan Katz who went down with injury 6 weeks ago.  In came sophomore Adam Dingwell and they didn’t miss a beat.

His first start was that road game @ Nevada where he was dynamite with three TDS and no picks.  Nobody knows who Dingwell is, or fellow soph Adam Muema even though Muema has two 200 yard rushing games this year and more than 1300 yards on the season.

He is critical to the 16th ranked rushing attack in the nation which will challenge BYU straight on.

As long as the number doesn’t get too back I think you have to back SDSU.
