Hawaii vs. San Jose St. Week 7 NCAA Lines & Spread Prediction

Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2011 CFB Week 7 clash between the Hawaii Warriors vs. San Jose State Spartans…

Warriors vs Spartans Handicapping

The Hawaii Warriors seemingly fixed their most persistent and urgent problem a few weeks ago. They traveled to Ruston, Louisiana, making the longest commute within the Western Athletic Conference, and found a way to decisively win a road game on the mainland United States.

Hawaii thrashed the Bulldogs, 44-26, quieting doubts about the islanders’ ability to get the job done in the contiguous 48 states.

Hawaii, you see, has often struggled to win when leaving Honolulu and the cozy confines of Aloha Stadium on a late Saturday evening. The grind of travel and the different rhythms of life have messed with the Warriors’ body clocks and have produced a number of foggy and groggy outings at the ballpark. One such disaster occurred earlier this season, when Hawaii took on a miserable UNLV squad – a team that lost at home by 25 points to Football Championship Subdivision school Southern Utah – and got blasted by a 40-20 score. UNLV has since lost to Nevada by a 37-0 count and has continued to plummet in the college football world. Hawaii, a co-WAC favorite this season alongside Nevada, never should have been within sniffing distance of losing to UNLV. Yet, the ambush happened, and that’s why the Louisiana Tech win was so critical. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Now, however, Hawaii must try to get the job done once more on the mainland. UH will travel to Silicon Valley to take on San Jose State. In 2009 or 2010, this game might have been considered a walkover, but it’s not quite a layup this time around. San Jose State is better than UNLV, for one thing. Secondly, the Spartans – under coach Mike McIntyre – have won two games in a row for the first time since October of 2008. That brief streak was stopped last weekend by Brigham Young, but the point remains that SJSU is making forward strides. Confidence is being built at a program that hasn’t had very much to cheer about in recent seasons. It’s also worth pointing out that this is a Friday game, creating a short week for Hawaii and introducing the possibility of additional disruptions to the Warriors’ pregame routine. On the raw merits, Hawaii owns far more talent, but as we’ve seen, Hawaii’s talent doesn’t always win out on the mainland. Take Hawaii in this game, but don’t treat Friday’s tilt as a stone-cold lock.
