Both of these teams came up just a little bit short in bds to win their respective conference titles and this is an important battle between the SEC and Big 12 for recruiting and of course bragging rights.

Both of these teams have had a month to deal with the disappointments of their last game. Whichever is most emotionally ready early will win it.

Oklahoma State

It shows the current state of the Oklahoma State program that there is disappointment about playing in the Cotton Bowl…but they can’t be disappointed with their opponent. The Cowboys had another strong season even though they looked a little different this year.

They are much more balanced on offense than they have been over the last few seasons with an ability to run the ball and play power football even using the QB in the running game, though they still love to spread defenses out strategically.

The Cowboys have a heady leader in senior QB Clint Chelf, who has had some brilliant games, most notably in the romp against Baylor. OSU also had a different identity on defense this season.

They haven’t lost their opportunistic aggressive style but they have become pretty stout in the trenches against the run and in giving up points – they give up just 20 per game.

Missouri

Mizzou had a great run through the SEC this season (after a disastrous year 1), all the way to the Championship Game where they ran into a buzzsaw in the form of the Auburn Tigers.

Throughout the season they showed they can compete in the SEC and did so despite losing QB James Franklin for a chunk of the second half of the season.

The reason the Tigers were so much stronger this season was the play of their defense but don’t overlook the fact that they scored an average of 39ppg this season good for 15th in the nation. The return to form of RB Henry Josey was huge and he scored more TDs than in his breakout sophomore season.

Once the Tigers get a lead they love to lean on him to close out games, which they are especially good at because they rush the passer so well as well.

Both of these teams are experienced and well coached and I think it is going to be a bit of a chess match. Whichever can make the best adjustments at halftime will win it.

The line is essentially a pick’em which seems right.

Spread Pick: Oklahoma State +1
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Oklahoma State 31 – Missouri 28
