Ole Miss

So it seems this team is pretty well figured out, in the middle of the pack but possibly on the rise.  No one is expecting much from this trip to LSU but with the Tigers eliminated from anything special this season you never know.

It would help if the Rebels had some momentum but they have lost their last two including that lone chalk loss at home to Vanderbilt last week.  To have a shot they will need QB Bo Wallace to exude all his moxie and make some big plays.  Last week he threw for more than 400 yards against an underrated Commodores team in the loss – a game in which they outgained Vandy significantly.

The Rebels have been a very good 7-3 ATS this year so even though the outcome of the games may not be in doubt they are able to exceed expectations in terms of the final score.  If they catch LSU off guard then we could be looking at another one of those situations this weekend.  Revenge could also be on their mind as the Tigers just creamed Ole Miss last season in their annual matchup.

LSU

With two losses already  the Tigers are not going to be able to make their BCS dreams come true this year. [soliloquy id=”82219″] They recovered from their dramatic loss to Alabama by taking care of business against Mississippi State last week at home and now they are looking to feast on another SEC West foe.  On paper it is hard to see how Ole Miss is going to match up but I think overall motivation could be a factor in this one.

Last week against MSU the Tigers scored more than 24 points for the first time in 5 games.  QB Zach Mettenberger carried over his success from the Alabama game and is finally looking like what they have been hoping for all along.  That is not good news for opponents like Ole Miss who are going to have a hard enough time stopping the Tigers 5 headed rushing attack that could also dominate easily.

LSU needs to keep winning to keep their place in the SEC West pecking order.  If they and A&M both finish the season with the same record then head to head performance will rule the day jumping the Tigers to the top of the standings.  The talent is there to cruise against Ole Miss, especially with their defense being as strong as it is.  Not a ton of value here though.

Spread Pick: LSU -18.5
O/U Pick: Over
