Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines came into this season with a lot of pressure to perform, and so far they have done a great job. Denard Robinson has instantly put his name into the Heisman conversation and this team is humming right along. The toughest part of their schedule is still to come, but Michigan looks like a much improved team.

The offense has been terrific this year, and it starts and ends with Denard Robinson and his spectacular play. Robinson sustained a minor injury last week against Bowling Green, but he is expected to play in this game. Robinson has 688 yards rushing and is averaging 8.7 yards per carry so far this year. The passing game has been solid as well, and Michigan has several weapons at the wide receiver spot. Roundtree, Odoms, Stonum, and Hemingway have all been major contributors in the offense. If there is one spot that is yet to be determined it is the tailback position. Michigan may need a more consistent threat from the running back position against the best in the Big Ten.

The Michigan defense is definitely the weaker of the two units. The Wolverines allowed points to UMass and have struggled against teams with a strong passing attack. Michigan needs to get a little better push up front and get some heat on the quarterback to take the pressure off an injury depleted secondary.

This defense will be tested by several offenses in the Big Ten this year. College Football

Indiana

The Hoosiers are 3-0, but they have yet to play anyone of consequence. Indiana is looking to improve on last year’s poor finish, but they must do it the rest of the way against a pretty tough schedule.

The Hoosiers have a very solid offense. Quarterback Ben Chappell is completing 72% of his passes and has 9 touchdowns and no interceptions so far this year. Tandon Doss is the big play maker at the receiver spot, and this team needs to work to get him the ball more often. Terrance Turner and DeMarlo Belcher have emerged as two more threats on the outside, so Chappell and this passing offense should be tough to stop all year long. The running game needs some work, but Darius Willis is a talented youngster who will keep defenses honest.

As good as the Indiana offense is this defensive unit is really going to hold back this team in 2010. The Hoosiers have struggled to stop the run already this year, and they have yet to play anyone with a strong rushing attack. The Indiana front four lacks a run plugging defensive tackle, which puts a lot of pressure on the linebackers to commit fully against the run. This Indiana defense has given up big plays in bunches over the last few years, but if they expect to improve as a team they must limit those big plays.

The Pick:

I think Michigan’s running attack will have a field day in this one against the weak Indiana rushing defense. At the same time, I do believe Indiana will be able to move the ball consistently against the Wolverines as well. It certainly is a high number, but I still think over 65.5 is the play in this one.

Michigan vs. Indiana Score Prediction: Michigan 41 Indiana 31
