Florida
The Gators are 4-0, but the offense hasn’t been able to get going the way many expected it would. The time is now Florida to show their full potential, because this is the best team they will play all year.
The Florida offense has not been able to get going this year, but they do have plenty of talent to go around. John Brantley has all the tools necessary to be a very good signal caller for the Gators, but this team must be able to stretch the field. The problem is right now they have been able to throw the deep ball and teams are sitting on their short passing game. The loss of their top two receivers from last year appears to be hurting this team quite a bit. Florida is just 78th in the nation in total offense, which clearly won’t get the job done.
The Gators defense has been much better, especially against the run. Florida is allowing just 94 yards on the ground per game, but that will be tested in a big way this weekend against the Crimson Tide. Florida is allowing just 14 points per game so far this year. Ahmad Black already has three interceptions, and the defense as a whole is very opportunistic.
The defense must continue to lead the team as the Gators search for their offensive firepower. 
Alabama
The Crimson Tide escaped last weekend against Arkansas with a hard fought 24-20 victory. They will head home for a night game at Bryant-Denny Stadium against the Florida Gators. This one should have as much intensity as you’ll ever see in a college football game.
The Alabama offense is definitely better than they were a year ago when this team won the BCS Championship. Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson combine to make a ridiculously talented backfield. No other team can even come close to matching Alabama’s talent in the running game. At the quarterback spot, Greg McElroy is a proven winner, and he is clearly leading this offense very effectively. Julio Jones is a standout wide receiver who provides a mismatch every time he steps onto the field. This Crimson Tide offense is loaded at every position, and they will be extremely tough to stop this season.
The Alabama defense returns only two starters from last year, but they are full of NFL caliber talent. Mark Barron is a great leader in the secondary and Dont’a Hightower often gets into the opposition’s backfield. No offense in the country will have more speed than this defense has. The one question mark may be the two starting cornerbacks, but the safeties do a nice job of covering for their occasional mistakes in coverage. This defense may be young, but they are very good.
The Pick:
This is probably the biggest game of the year so far in college football, and it should be a great one to watch. Florida is just 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 against Alabama. The Gators are 0-4 ATS in their last four games at Alabama. The Crimson Tide will be looking to make a statement here. I like Alabama -7.5.
