The Wildcats of Kentucky have a new coach in Joker Phillips, and they are looking pretty impressive so far this year. Kentucky is off to a 3-0 start and they have covered the spread in all three games, but this will be by far their most difficult game yet.

The Kentucky offense has a couple of great play makers in Derrick Locke and Randall Cobb. Locke has rushed for at least 100 yards in every game this year and he is averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Cobb is their best home run threat and he gets back in the “Wild Cobb formation” and breaks some big runs from time to time. Mike Hartline is the senior quarterback for this offense. Hartline isn’t dynamic, but he has improved his decision making and has yet to throw a pick this season.

The Wildcats defense is fast and very athletic, but they do lack when it comes to experience. They have yet to be tested by a good offense this year, so the jury is still out as to how good this unit will be.

In the end I believe it is quite likely that the defense will be the weak link for this team, but I don’t expect them to be terrible. College Football

Florida

The Gators haven’t been terribly impressive, but they are 3-0 in 2010. Slow starts have been a real problem for Florida so far this year, but they have finished well and forced turnovers at an impressive rate.

The Gators offense still hasn’t gotten things going just yet. John Brantley has just 452 passing yards so far this season. The wide receivers are inexperienced and that is holding Brantley back a bit so far this year. Jeff Demps is quickly becoming the most important man on the offense as he is the leading rusher and a terrific receiver out of the backfield. The offensive line has yet to gel the way Urban Meyer would like to see. The line and the passing game must improve quickly if Florida wants to contend for the SEC Championship this year.

The Florida defense hasn’t been dominating, but they have definitely been very opportunistic. This defense has forced 12 turnovers through just three games. No doubt the defense should be thanked for the fact that this team is 3-0 at this point. They allowed 244 rushing yards against South Florida and 259 passing yards against Tennessee, so there is definitely still work to do for this defense. I expect this talented young defense to improve as the season goes along.

The Pick:

There are a lot of unknowns going into this game, because Florida hasn’t been very impressive, but Kentucky hasn’t played anyone tough either. In the end I think Kentucky will hang around in this one and they could give Florida a scare. The most important thing for the Wildcats to do is protect the football and win the turnover battle. I think Florida wins the game, but I’ll take the Wildcats at +14.

Kentucky vs. Florida Score Prediction: Florida 31 Kentucky 21
