Miami

The Miami Hurricanes have really rebuilt the program nicely under the direction of Randy Shannon the last couple of years. The team is ranked in the top fifteen in the polls right now, and most feel all they need is a signature win. This is a great chance at that signature win, especially since Miami is still looking for revenge from the 2002 BCS National Championship Game.

The offense of the Hurricanes revolves around Jacory Harris. Harris is a great play maker at the quarterback position. Harris completed 59.6% of his passes last year and threw 24 touchdown passes. The team would certainly like him to cut down on the 17 interceptions he threw last year. He is mobile enough to keep the play alive, but he is definitely a quarterback who prefers to pass the football. The receiving corps is full of talent and they should be able to get open against just about everyone they play this year.

The Miami defense is filled with guys who can roam all over the field with their impressive speed, but they have also had trouble trying to force turnovers in the last couple of years. The defense, as it stands right now, is a talented group of individuals that could gel into something much more special in time. The problem for Miami is that Ohio State’s offense is extremely special already, so they’ll need to rise to the occasion on Saturday.

Ohio State

The Buckeyes absolutely blasted Marshall on opening night in the Horseshoe by a margin of 45-7. Terrelle Pryor and the offense were firing on all cylinders. This Buckeyes team is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, and they have extremely high expectations for this year. College Football

Terrelle Pryor is the clear leader of this offense, and the Buckeyes absolutely need him to be at his best if they wish to make a run at the national title this year. Pryor threw three touchdown passes and had 247 passing yards in the season opener. His favorite target is the talented Devier Posey, although Dane Sanzenbacher is a fundamental wide receiver who gets the job done. The offensive line was a weakness for 2008 and much of 2009, but they appear to have gotten their act together of late. The backfield is absolutely loaded with depth as the Buckeyes have four or five running backs that will see quite a bit of action this year. Keep a close eye on Brandon Saine, because he has all the tools in the backfield and is a great pass receiver that Pryor loves to look for as well.

The Buckeyes defense has ranked in the top five in the nation year in and year out of late and that probably won’t change this year. The defense lost quite a bit of talent on the line, but Cameron Heyward is a beast and the linebackers are very quick to the football. The Buckeyes may struggle to put a lot of heat on the quarterback in 2010, but the secondary is pretty solid so don’t expect them to get torched through the air too often.

The Pick:

The Buckeyes appear to be the better team here and the home field advantage is huge at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. I expect Pryor and the offense to put up solid numbers and the Buckeyes to win the turnover margin here. I think Ohio State -8.5 is the play in this one.

Miami vs. Ohio State Score Prediction: Ohio State 27 Miami 14
