Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes picked up a huge victory last weekend over the Michigan State Spartans. Iowa dominated the game from start to finish and proved just how tough they can be when they play a disciplined game.

The Iowa offense is led by their terrific senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi. Stanzi has thrown 19 touchdowns this year, while only throwing two interceptions. Stanzi threw 15 interceptions last year, but he made it a point to take better care of the football this year, and he has done brilliantly thus far. Adam Robinson gives Iowa a hard-nosed runner who can also catch the ball out of the backfield. The biggest difference between a typical Iowa offense and this year’s offense is they have two very talented wide receivers. Johnson-Koulianos and McNutt are receivers who can change the game on a daily basis.

The Iowa defense is one of the best in the nation. They had a very disappointing showing against Wisconsin a couple weeks ago, but they bounced back in a big way last week. Michigan State has a terrific running game, but they were only able to muster 31 yards on the ground last week against this Hawkeyes defense. The front four are as good as anyone in the country, and they safeties are extremely talented as well. Iowa is a little inexperienced at the cornerback spot, but overall this defense is tremendous.

Indiana

The Indiana Hoosiers are on the same road they have been on the last few years. Indiana did extremely well in their non-conference schedule, but they have yet to win in the Big Ten. They must win two of their four to become bowl eligible.

The Indiana offense has done their job well this year. Ben Chappell has 2,445 yards passing and 18 touchdown passes on the year. Chappell suffered a slight ankle injury last weekend, but he is expected to play this Saturday. The Hoosiers probably have the best wide receiver trio in the Big Ten. Tandon Doss is the big play guy on the outside, but DeMarlo Belcher and Terrance Turner have more receptions. Indiana has a great passing game, but they lack a running game to keep the best defenses honest. Iowa does struggle some against the pass, but it may be tough for Indiana to protect their quarterback.

While the offense has been good, the defense has been atrocious. The defense has been terrible against both the pass and the run. The front four have been completely unable to put any pressure on opposing quarterbacks this year. Indiana has just 10 sacks all season, which shows you just how much pressure they are putting on their weak secondary. Iowa’s offensive line is strong so I don’t see Indiana’s defense being able to do much in this one. If Indiana is going to stay in the game, they will probably need to force some turnovers.

The Pick:

Indiana’s defense is so bad that I really believe Iowa will control this football game. Indiana will definitely be able to move the ball some on offense, but without a running game it will be tough to keep up on the scoreboard. I like Iowa -17 in this game.

Iowa vs. Indiana Score Prediction: Iowa 38 Indiana 13
