Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Badgers lost in East Lansing to start the month of October, but they sure did finish out the month playing some good football. The Badgers beat Ohio State and Iowa in consecutive games and they are even on the fringe of the national title race now.
Wisconsin’s success on offense starts with the running game. The Badgers have the best offensive line in the Big Ten, and they proved it by dominating both Ohio State and Iowa’s defensive front. John Clay is the primary ball carrier, but freshman James White has been terrific this year as well. Clay has 13 touchdowns on the season and White is averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Scott Tolzien has done a great job at the quarterback spot for Wisconsin as well. He is completing 72% of his passes, and the Badgers have a solid passing game. Lance Kendricks may be the best tight end in the country. This offense is loaded with weapons.
The Badgers aren’t as strong defensively, but they have been holding their own. The injury to Chris Borland hurt this defense quite a bit, but they are still only allowing 20 points per game this year. They have been better against the run than the pass, which bodes well for them this weekend against the Purdue Boilermakers. 
Purdue
The Purdue Boilermakers had high hopes coming into this season, but injuries really stopped them in their tracks. The season has gone south in a hurry, and they must win two of their last four to have a chance at a bowl berth.
Freshman Rob Henry is the starter at quarterback for the Boilers if he is healthy. He has an injured finger and is currently listed as questionable Henry likes to run it often from the quarterback spot, but he must improve his passing efficiency. He is completing just 50.5% of his passes so far this year. If Henry is unable to play, expect freshman Sean Robinson to start under center. Dan Dierking is the leading rusher for this team, and he is averaging 6 yards per carry. Purdue’s receivers are extremely inexperienced and this passing game is just very weak right now. In order to move the ball offensively Purdue must be able to dominate the line of scrimmage against Wisconsin.
Purdue is a bit of a strange defensive unit, because they are very good up front, but the secondary is terrible. Ryan Kerrigan leads a defensive line that can put a ton of pressure on the quarterback. Purdue already has 22 sacks on the season, but they still allow 229 yards per game through the air. They’ll need to stop the run first this week, but Tolzien has the ability to beat them with the pass if needed.
The Pick:
The Purdue Boilermakers just aren’t competitive right now. Wisconsin has really put it together of late, and I fully expect them to win this one handily. The Badgers should be able to stop this weak Purdue offense, and their offense is too good for Purdue to stop them consistently. I like Wisconsin -20 here.
