Minnesota vs. Texas Tech Free Gambling Prediction & Meineke Car Care Bowl Preview

Golden Gophers vs Red Raiders College Football Spread/Handicapping

Hardly riveting action in this one.  Texas Tech has already seen their coach move on to “greener” pastures and Minnesota barely qualified to play in a bowl game.  Maybe the Gophers have an advantage because they are not going through a transition…maybe.

Minnesota

The Gophers got the bulk of their required 6 victories before Big 10 play began.  The conference was down this year but this team could still manage only two conference victories.

They definitely stand to benefit from the extra bowl practices but this team is still pretty light on talent…It is amazing the Gophers are even playing in a bowl given how anemic their offense has been this season.  They are an even 100th in points scored at 21ppg – not really a surprise given they had three starting quarterbacks and none of them played all that well.

The running game was unspectacular but the defense was more stout than we are used to seeing, especially against the pass where they were ranked 11th in the nation.  They are going to need to be strong in that area as Texas Tech will challenge them through the air…Minnesota was an ATS loser this season.

Which shouldn’t really be a surprise given they were outscored by 30 points on the season despite their 6-6 record.  They especially struggled as an underdog going just 2-6 ATS in those situations.

The only two numbers they covered were small one where they won outright too against Purdue and Syracuse.

Texas Tech

Everyone seems to think the Red Raiders made a smart hire in luring former standout QB Kliff Kingsbury to coach. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Either way this team heads into the Bowl game pretty flat having lost 4 of its last 5 games after getting off to such a promising start.  The Tommy Tuberville era is going to be looked at as a lost time for this program but at least it didn’t sink into the abyss…

Even though it wasn’t Tuberville’s style the Red Raiders still flung the ball around.  Sometime during this bowl game QB Seth Doege will eclipse 4000 yards passing again by leading the second most prolific passing offense in the country.

The defensive numbers are weird as they don’t give up a ton of yards – 2nd in the Big 12 – but do give up a lot of points – 7th at 31ppg allowed…Early Texas Tech was an ATS monster but down the stretch they killed bettors dropping their last 5 games in a row.

As a favourite they are 4-2 ATS this season and they should be able to take advantage of this meek Minnesota team.

Spread Pick: Texas Tech -13
