LA Tech Bulldogs 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Picks

2015-16 Football Previews – (C-USA) – Bulldogs

Consistency would be more than enough for a lot of college football programs. Louisiana Tech has won 8 or more games 4 times since 2006 and are coming off a solid 9-5 season that saw them knock off Big 10 opponent Illinois in their Bowl Game.

However, there isn’t much settle when it comes to the La Tech players and coaches. They’ve set the bar ridiculously high for the 2015-2016 season as they get set to try and compete with the top teams in Conference USA.

They smoked Western Kentucky last season and fell to Marshall by just 3 points late in the season. Those will be the two teams they’ll likely be facing off with this season when it comes to a conference championship.

Sitting as third “favorites” to win the conference, their two main counterparts are the only teams that sit ahead of them.

La Tech showed brilliant signs of offense last season like when they threw up 59 points against Western Kentucky. However, they showed signs of inexperience and struggles like their game against Old Dominion that saw them fall 30-27.

Louisiana Tech’s offense is right up there with the best in the conference. It’s turning that into full game performance that they must work on to be better.

They failed many times to come up with big drives late in games.

Team Strengths:

Big Plays: Louisiana Tech is one of the few teams that has the potential to turn nothing into something. Meaning, they can turn a 3rd and 15 into a touchdown with no problem.

In 2014 they had 75 plays of 20+ yards and have a dynamic duo in the backfield that can break into open field any play.

RBs Kenneth Dixon and Jarred Craft rushed for over 1500 yards combined and ran for 26 touchdowns. Granted, Kenneth Dixon did a majority of the work in those stats, but just having Craft in the backfield offered the Bulldogs with a wide variety of options.

Team Weaknesses:

Questionable QB: Louisiana Tech’s 2014 QB Cody Sokol threw for 3436 yards and 30 touchdowns. He was a major part of their big play ability, but graduated following the season.

They’ll now go with Florida transfer Jeff Driskel, who showed some solid signs of brilliance in his time with the Gators last season. Driskel threw for 1140 yards, but only had 9 touchdowns to go along with 10 interceptions.

He’ll get a chance to face a lot easier of competition as C-USA’s defense is clearly on a much lower level than the SECs.

The Bulldogs will go only as far as Driskel takes them. If he fails, they really don’t have anybody else behind him to trust.

2015-2016 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Prediction: 9-3

They have two realistic non conference games they lose this season, Kansas State and Mississippi State. The unfortunate thing for them is they get Western Kentucky early in the season. It will be tough to really get Driskel settled in by then which could cause some problems.

They luck out in not having to face Marshall though.

All in all, Louisiana Tech has a chance this season, but their game against WKU will be crucial early to set the tone. It could get Driskel that momentum he needs to run through the season.
