This is a rematch of the first game of the season for these two teams which is the only reason I can see for the Cyclones to be favoured – they won by 15 as two point underdogs.
This ISU team struggled down the stretch winning just 1 of the their last 4 games. It makes you wonder how they controlled that Baylor offense after watching the display the Bears put on against UCLA in the Holiday Bowl…

The Cyclones don’t do anything particularly well. When you watch them play they seem a step slow but at the same time I think they are well coached and often in the right position.
Their quarterback Steele Jantz is a gutsy leader but you almost have to be with a name like that…Iowa State at -1.5 seems a bit ridiculous to me. Sure they won the season opener but that game was a lifetime ago and you have to think there is some advantage to Tulsa for having played it. At least as much as the other way around.
Iowa State has not been a good bet all season long, 5-6-1 on the season and 1-3 down the stretch.
Tulsa
Tulsa are the Conference USA champs this season.
After losing the opener to ISU they lost only two other times during the season. All of their losses were on the road too. They are not as explosive offensively as they have been in previous iterations but this team is beautifully balanced this year and can be tough to defend… [soliloquy id=”82219″]
The Cyclones might recognize Tulsa QB Cody Green as he started his career at Nebraska back when they were still members of the Big 12. In his first year at Tulsa he has been more of a game manager than a game changer at QB. The Golden Hurricane are blessed with a very productive backfield though.
Trey Watts, Ja’Terian Douglas and Alex Singleton all have more than 700 yards this season. Watts leads with close to 1000 but Singleton is a bulldozer with 21 rushing TDs…
I am not sure where the early money came in on this one but it just looks wrong to me right now. Tulsa was sloppy in the opener with more turnovers and penalties than Iowa State.
Since then they have improved greatly and I think they will win easily.
Getting a little extra cushion only makes it easier to back Tulsa but I say go for the ML win and take a few extra bucks home with you.
