Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Picks

2015-2016 Football Previews (MWC) – Warriors

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors‘ head coach Norm Chow has basically been seated on the hot seat ever since his arrival at the program. It hasn’t always been pretty, but the 2015 NCAA Football Season seems to feature his most talented roster to date since arriving on the island.

Head Coach: Norm Chow
2014 Record: 4-9
Season Win Total (from 5Dimes): 6

The bad news is that Chow could seemingly remain on that heated seat despite the improved roster. Why is that you ask? And incredibly difficult non-conference schedule.

Chow must prove that the players in place are good enough to keep his job, but teams such as Ohio State, Wisconsin and even Boise State will have other plans in mind when they face during the first half of the season.

Team Strengths

One of the reasons this roster should be improved in 2015-16 is because the Rainbow Warriors have 12 returning starters. And this isn’t a case where a team is actually kicking itself over bringing back those players. This group is becoming more veteran before our eyes, and that’s something Chow needs with such a difficult schedule against big-time programs on the schedule.

A big part of that experience is going to come from the offensive line. That group has combined for 59 starts between Ben Clarke, Dejon Allen, Brenden Urban, Elijah Tupai and John Wa’a.

Another strength on this roster is wide receiver, but with a caveat. Vasquez Haynes and Devan Stubble field have to come back healthy.

Defensively, safety is the the position where this roster has the most depth. The secondary is also strong, but Trayvon Henderson, Marrell Jackson and Daniel Lewis will hold down fort — Dany Mulanga also has looked good as a redshirt freshman.

Team Weaknesses

Quarterback is a big question mark for this program. This year, the Rainbow Warriors will see potentially its fifth different starting man behind center in the past five seasons.

If continuity is key, it’s easy to see why the team was just 111th in the nation last year in points per contest (20.9), and why the team went just 4-9 (2-3 versus the MWC West; 0-1 versus a Top 25 team).

This team is also going to have to make up the loss of its front seven from a year ago. That’s a huge problem considering the big-time, physical programs that are featured on the schedule early in the year.

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 2015-2016 Prediction: 3-10

Even though this group is going to be more talented than we’ve seem from Hawaii in a while, depth is still a concern. And that’s a huge problem considering the strength of schedule to start the year.

If Hawaii can come out on the other side of that tough start healthy and encourage by positive play (even if there aren’t many wins out of it), there’s a chance that this team can take the momentum from that early slate and put it toward ending its streak of losing seasons.

Unfortunately, it’s just too tough to imagine that at this juncture.

Look for the Warriors to struggle early before finally looking like a respectable team late — just a little too late in the 2015 college football season.
