1. Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-0, previous: 1)

The Bulldogs had some trouble getting by a scrappy Arkansas team on their home turf a week ago. They draw a cupcake matchup this weekend but will really need to flex their muscles in that one. Their status as the top team in the nation is beginning to come into question.

2. Florida State Seminoles (8-0, previous: 2)

The Seminoles caught a break last Thursday when Louisville ran out to a big lead and took its foot off the gas in that one. They may not get so lucky this coming weekend against a scrappy Virginia squad in need of a big win.

3. Auburn Tigers (7-1, previous: 4)

Another big win for Auburn, which needs to keep piling up the big wins to keep up with a Mississippi State team that handed the Tigers their only loss of the season. They’ll have a chance to rack up some points on Saturday when they host Texas A&M in what figures to be another shootout.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1, previous: 3)

There are still some questions surrounding the Alabama offense, but the squad has quietly put together the nation’s second best scoring defense. They’ll face a stern test on Saturday when they make the trip to Death Valley to take on rival LSU.

5. Oregon Ducks (8-1, previous: 5)

The Ducks are back into the playoff picture with a bang as Marcus Mariota picked up his first win against Stanford. The Ducks have their toughest remaining game on deck when they make the trip out to Salt Lake City to take on Utah.

6. TCU Horned Frogs (7-1, previous: 10)

The Horned Frogs didn’t do the Big 12 any favors by engaging in what was a sloppy affair with West Virginia. While they were able to escape with the win, TCU certainly lost a lot of its luster in that one.

7. Michigan State Spartans (7-1, previous: 8)

The Spartans have looked solid since a loss to Oregon. Their season has effectively been a build up to this game against Ohio State. The Spartans had the luxury of getting the week off prior to the matchup, and have the luxury of getting the game off a bye week.

8. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-1, previous: 6)

The Irish needed to put in a little extra effort than they would have liked to get by a scrappy Navy squad that always seems to give them trouble. They’ll certainly have a tough time in their next game when they visit Arizona State.

9. Kansas State Wildcats (7-1, previous: 11)

Kansas State wouldn’t have been faulted a week ago if it had some trouble with Oklahoma State, given the matchup the Wildcats had on deck, but instead they rolled the Cowboys by 34 points. Next up is a pair of brutal matchups at TCU and at West Virginia.

10. Baylor Bears (7-1, previous: 12)

The Bears finally showed that they’re still able to build a margin on Saturday, even if it was just against Kansas. There still feels like there’s something off about this year’s squad. Maybe Bryce Petty is more hurt than he’s letting on. They get Oklahoma in Norman this weekend.
