1. Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-0, previous: 1)

The Bulldogs could have come out flat when they returned from their bye week to take on Kentucky, but instead they rolled the Wildcats. They’ll need to get up for a lesser opponent against this coming weekend when they host Arkansas.

2. Florida State Seminoles (7-0, previous: 2)

The Seminoles are coming off a bye with more off the field problems. This time it’s running back Karlos Williams who is under investigation. However, Jimbo Fisher has said that he will play on Thursday night when Florida State visits Louisville. The Seminoles have been ultra-reliant on Jameis Winston to get them through the first half of their schedule, so they figure to be in tough against a Cardinals team that has been harder on opposing quarterbacks than any other in the nation.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1, previous: 4)

Alabama ran out to a big lead over Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, but then allowed the Volunteers to creep back into the game. They’re on a bye this weekend but they won’t get away with taking their foot off the gas next weekend when they make the trip out to Death Valley.

4. Auburn Tigers (6-1, previous: 5)

Auburn finds itself a spot behind Alabama in the AP poll, but they rank ahead of the Crimson Tide in the playoff poll, which is interesting. The Tigers had a tougher time with South Carolina than they probably should have last weekend, but they did escape that one with a win. They need to be on their game this weekend in a trip to Oxford to take on an Ole Miss team looking to rebound.

5. Oregon Ducks (7-1, previous: 6)

A good prime time win over Cal helps Oregon get back on track, but they’ll be in tough this Saturday when they take on a Stanford team looking to salvage a disappointing season.

6. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-1, previous: 7)

The Irish were off this past week after their first loss of the season to Florida State. They didn’t take much of a hit in the AP poll because they kept that one close, but they are back to No. 10 in the inaugural playoff poll. They need to get back into the win column Saturday when they take on Navy.

7. Ole Miss Rebels (7-1, previous: 3)

The Rebels dropped their first game of the season on Saturday despite another terrific game by the team’s defense. They have a chance to bounce right back when they host Auburn on Saturday.

8. Michigan State Spartans (7-1, previous: 8)

Michigan State feels like the tough luck loser in the inaugural playoff poll as their lone loss came against Oregon, yet their strength of schedule knocked them back. Their next game after the bye will make or break their season when they host Ohio State.

[dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

9. Georgia Bulldogs (6-1, previous: 9)

Georgia returns on Saturday to host Florida, but it’s not yet known whether they will have Todd Gurley around for that one. The Bulldogs are sitting pretty in a weakened SEC East.

10. TCU Horned Frogs (6-1, previous: 10)

After putting up a program-best 82 points against Texas Tech last weekend, many are making a case for TCU to be the top one-loss team in the nation. They’ll certainly need to continue to win big if they hope to qualify for the inaugural four-team playoff, and have a chance to pick up a good win Saturday against West Virginia.
