NCAA Football Betting: 2011 Conference Realignment

Shea Matthews weighs in with an article about the upcoming 2011 NCAA football season and how the teams effected by conference realignment will do. As with the Big Ten, television played a major role in the Pac-10’s decision to expand…

NCAA Football Betting – 2011 Conference Changes

As much as the NFL is making us sweat, we can rest easy knowing that college football will indeed take place in 2011. It’s time to start getting up to snuff on the new season. The first step: figuring out all the conference changes. Which teams played musical chairs?

NEBRASKA – moves to the Big Ten

Is it just me or does almost everyone feel good about this move? The Cornhuskers have proven themselves in the Big 12 over the years and their team personality fits the smashmouth mentality of Big Ten football.

The road certainly won’t be easy once conference play starts in October, as Nebraska gets Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan and more.

UTAH – moves to the Pac-10

This move intrigues me the most of the big offseason switches. It’s time for the Utes to put their money where their collective mouth is. They were the classic “little guy” dominating mostly powder-puff opponents in the Mountain West over the last few seasons and they’re eager to show they can hack it with the likes of Oregon, USC and Stanford. We’ll see.

They did give SEC juggernaut Alabama that surprising beating a couple years ago in a bowl game.

BYU – becomes an independent

Curious. BYU will draw some new, interesting opponents now that it joins Notre Dame, Army and Navy as an independent, but it loses the fun of competing for a conference title. I’m not crazy about this move. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

BOISE STATE – moves to Mountain West

Sigh. Boise State is tired of crushing easy opponents and wants to garner consideration for a national title…but it joins the MWC just as Utah and BYU leave?

Will things actually get any tougher for the Broncos this season?

COLORADO – moves to the Pac-10

Colorado joins Utah in the migration from the MWC but most bettors are less optimistic about its chances at success. Remember when California stomped the Buffalos 52-7 last season?

We can expect more of the same.
