The Yellow Jackets have to be one of the most maddening teams out there this season. With their old school offense they rumble away at teams at times looking unstoppable.

Georgia Tech

Yet the game results are once again middling.

They are on their best run of the season right now heading into their annual rivalry game with the Bulldogs.

They have won three in a row, covering all three and believe it or not are a potential ACC Coastal champion.

Georgia Tech is third in the nation running the ball – no real surprise there.  What is amazing is that they have so much success spreading the carries around.  Orwin Smith leads in rushing but he is just one of 6 ball carriers with 300 or more yards on the season.  QB Tevin Washington is the second leading rusher but he has recently lost his starting position to Vad Lee.

Both are effective runners with Lee, a freshman is getting a headstart on his Tech career.

With the three game run Georgia Tech is now 7-4 ATS this season, including 3-1 as the visitor.  Georgia is the best team they will have faced all season long as their schedule avoided Florida State and Clemson from the Atlantic Division.  Georgia has won the last three in the series covering twice.

This is one the better in-state rivalries for me.

Georgia

The Bulldogs have already clinched a berth in the SEC Championship game but can’t be caught looking ahead this week as they have a real chance of playing in the BCS Championship.  Win this week and beat Alabama in the SEC title game and they should be in. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

You can bet that Georgia Tech would love to spoil that plan so I expect to see sparks flying when this one kicks off early on Saturday.  Georgia has dominated lately but Tech can give them a game.

Georgia should win.  They have one of the better defenses out there and even if they struggle with the option attack of Tech they have more than enough offense to win a shootout, especially against a GT team that is hardly great defensively.  With their current standing they may not need style points but I expect they will continue to pour it on if given the opportunity.

QB Aaron Murray and RB Todd Gurley could throw themselves into the Heisman debate with outstanding performances.

Georgia hasn’t lost at home this season but is just 3-4 ATS.  In fact the season totals are just 5-6 against the number.  Oddly three of those losses are their three nonconference games and this would be the fourth.

I don’t like the trend but I still like Georgia on Saturday.
