Georgia Bulldogs 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015 Football Previews – (SEC) – Georgia

The SEC East was ripe for the taking last season, but the Georgia Bulldogs just had too many missteps to take advantage. The team will field another solid roster that will flirt with a top 10 ranking in the AP poll this upcoming season, but many will question the job security of head coach Mark Richt if the squad again fails to break through.

Head Coach: Mark Richt
2014 Record: 10-3
Georgia Odds to win the SEC: 6-1

While the Bulldogs have piled up the wins, they’ve failed to pick up the big wins, remaining out of the national title hunt, and even failing to finish atop the SEC. The team’s hiccups a year ago were inexcusable, losing a shootout to an average South Carolina team, and getting stunned by Florida.

That allowed Missouri to back into the SEC title games as the representative in the SEC East. Now the rest of the East is catching up to Georgia. Tennessee and South Carolina have both improved, Jim McElwain should quickly turn around the Florida offense, and Missouri isn’t going anywhere.

Team Strengths

With Todd Gurley gone, the keys to the offense belong to Nick Chubb. With Gurley dealing with injuries and a suspension a year ago, Chubb saw plenty of playing time and certainly made the most of it as a true freshman.

Chibb churned out 1,547 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 7.1 yards per carry, including eight consecutive 100-yard rushing games to close out the season. Most impressive was a 33-carry, 266-yard, two touchdown performance against Louisville in the team’s bowl victory.

The defense has the talent to be even better than it was a year ago. The linebacking corps will be the strength of that unit. Losing Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson isn’t great, but getting Leonard Floyd back for another year before he makes the jump to Sundays is huge.

Jordan Jenkins returns for his senior season. While his stats don’t necessarily jump off the page, he did a little bit of everything for the Bulldogs last season, and is great as a pass rusher. Lorenzo Carter is going to play some linebacker and defensive end as a hybrid, and flashed his ability to get into opposing backfields as a freshman.

Team Weaknesses

The passing game is going to be a struggle, though the success of the running game should help in that department. However, the running game was there a year ago and the passing game still failed to churn out big yards. There was some efficiency there, but at some point those big chunk plays need to come from somewhere.

Getting back wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell after a couple injury plagued seasons will be big. Whoever wins the quarterback battle will surely make him a main target from the early going, and he’ll also help in setting up those big plays.

2015 Georgia Bulldogs Prediction: 10-2

The Bulldogs really drew the short straw on the crossover, picking up dates against Alabama and at Auburn. However, they made up for that with some cupcake non-conference matchups, with three cake walks and a trip to Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale.

The game at Tennessee on Oct. 10 is a big one for the Bulldogs. They’ll be coming off their game against Alabama and taking to the road against an improving division opponent. Georgia just needs to keep its sights on winning the SEC East to get a shot at the SEC title game. If they can win that, everything else will take care of itself.
