Fresno State Bulldogs 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Picks

2015-2016 Football Previews (MWC) – Bulldogs

The Fresno State Bulldogs are coming off a disappointing season. Derek Carr, Davante Adams, Isaiah Burse, two starting offensive linemen and three top-tier defensive linemen all left. The defense took a step in the wrong direction, and the offense did as well.

The Bulldogs started the year playing terrible football, and did the opposite of finishing strong, performing like one of the worst teams in the country.

MWC 2015-2016 College Football Preview – Fresno State
Head Coach:Tim DeRuyter
2014 Record: 6-8
Season Win Total (from 5Dimes): 4

It’s no wonder this team is projected to win just four games this upcomgin season.

Luckily for Fresno State last season, it had a decent stretch in the middle of the year where it played well. That’s the only reason it was able to win the MWC West in quite possibly the FBS’ weakest division.

Now the team hopes to improve just enough to improve on a year that saw them squeak into the title game and get dominated.

Team Strengths

Let’s be frank right from the get-go.

There aren’t many strengths to boast at this juncture for this program.

Defensively, linebacker is probably the closest thing to a strength. The position has depth to make up for a lack of depth up front.

Ejiro Ederaine and Kyrie Wilson are solid in the starting lineup, as both completed better than 50 tackles last season.

The two of them combined for 19 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.

Offensively, Marteze Waller is one of the only players on the roster who has experience. As a junior, the running back recorded 1,368 yards and 11 touchdowns. He will clearly be the top option in the Bulldogs’ up-tempo system.

This should give him plenty of opportunities to make a name for himself, even if the team struggles to find success next season.

Team Weaknesses

This team is full of potential. That’s a good thing.

It’s also, however, a nice way of saying that this group has virtually no experience on its roster, and is in the midst of what some might call a “rebuild” — even though that phrase isn’t typically used when it comes to college programs.

As exciting as a quarterback competition can be, it’s also a bit unsettling. This team currently has three players in the running for a starting gig: Zack Greenlee, Kilton Anderson and Chason Virgil.

Greenlee appears to be the favorite in the running, but without a clearcut best option, it’s tough to say who’s going to be the man behind center on Day 1 of the regular season.

To make matters worse, this receiving core is extremely inexperienced. Aaron Peck is the only senior on the roster with legitimate experience, which could be a problem for a team that needs to help a quarterback settle into his role.

Defensively, this team is thin up front.

Fresno State Bulldogs 2015-2016 Prediction: 5-7

As much trouble as the Bulldogs had in 2014, you can almost argue that they overachieved based on all the key cogs they lost before the campaign began. That fact is a compliment to what they were able to do, but also a bad sign for what could come next.

Simply put: It’s going to take another strong stretch of consistently strong football to make this team any better (or even as good) than last season. Look for this team to take a one-win dip when it comes to its record next season, as the offseason changes and additions won’t be enough for the quick fix fans would like to see at this point in the process.
