The Tar Heels have beer terrible while the Blue Devils are flying high.

North Carolina

In the ACC no team is more enigmatic than North Carolina.

They enter the game 5-5, a win short of the magic bowl mark with two games to go.

They have won three of their last four and their win over rising Georgia Tech is looking pretty darn good right now. At their best they are a high flying offensive team with one of the best dual-threat QBs in the nation.

At their worst they are a terrible defensive team giving up 41ppg…that is not a typo.

In half of their games they have given up 40 or more points.

There is no doubt that QB Marquise Williams is a difference maker, he has thrown for 18 touchdowns and scored another 10 with his legs.

The best thing about him though is probably that he can come back next season and be even better. He needs another season to get the most out of Quinshad Davis.

Even though he should be a tough cover at 6’4” with speed, his numbers are down this year. This team can be so explosive at times though

Duke

The Blue Devils squandered an opportunity last week when they lost to Virginia Tech at home.

I think they still have the inside track on the ACC Coastal division if they win out but it is possible they tie with Georgia who they beat – both teams have two losses. Duke finishes at home with Wake Forest who has yet to win a league game this season so if they are going to fall again this is the more likely spot.

Duke has won the last two in the series as they have jumped up to more than respectable over the last couple of season.

I did a double-take when I saw that Duke is 11th in the nation in scoring defense – they give up just 18ppg.

It seemed logical that this program could have success by throwing the ball all over the field but if they can beat guys in defense too than they are pretty legit.

This year they are more balanced than they have been offensively in a long time and they look to take the air out of the ball a little if they can on Saturday.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 4-0 in Tar Heels last 4 Thursday games.
  • Tar Heels are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games.

  • Home team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

These program are rivals in hoops but the football rivalry is growing since Duke got a pulse.

4* Free NCAAF Score prediction:  North Carolina 38 – Duke 34

Look for UNC to get back to winning this weekend in a fun back and forth game. Last possession wins it.
