The Hoosiers will hope to play the role of spoiler, but it looks unlikely in the hostile confines of Columbus.

Since a limp Week 2 loss to Virginia Tech (the Hokies are now 5-5), Ohio State has played excellent football.

The renaissance in the state capitol is led by perennial top-dog coach Urban Meyer and freshman QB J.T. Barrett. The young pivot has played well enough to emerge as a late-season Heisman Trophy candidate; there is no team currently playing better football in the Big Ten than the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes have handled respectable competition like Penn State, Michigan State and Minnesota in recent weeks; a rather powder-puffy game this week versus the Hoosiers and the hated (but train-wreck) Michigan Wolverines are the only remaining hurdles to an 11-win season.

Barrett is dangerous because he’ll get it done aerially or with his scrambling. He gets balanced production on offense from the likes of RB Ezekiel Elliott, sophomore WR Michael Thomas and WR Devin Smith.

It’s not uncommon to see OSU in the upper crust of both scoring offense and defense – such is the case in ’14. The Buckeyes are fifth in the country in scoring “O” (averaging 44.5 points per game) and 25th in “D” (surrendering only 22 per).

The 3-7 Indiana Hoosiers are the “Little Engine that Could” with their ground game, but it hasn’t translated in the win column. Indiana is 11th in the nation on the ground, putting up over 260 rush yards per game.

Running back Tevin Coleman is having a ridiculous season, eclipsed in the Big Ten perhaps only by Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon at the position. Coleman has racked up 1,678 rush yards on 218 carries, to go along with 12 TDs.

Without Coleman, the Hoosiers’ attack would be impotent.

However, IU has dropped several games in a row and this notorious basketball school looks like it is merely playing out the string. The Hoosiers are 0-6 within the Big Ten in a record time for the conference’s futility.

In short: It doesn’t look good in Bloomington.

Expect the Buckeyes to have their way with the visitors inside “The Horseshoe”. Barrett should shred a terrible Indiana defense; there should be plenty of big plays to be had.

The only thing that could endanger Ohio State is if it gets caught napping in this game, looking ahead to Michigan in the season’s final game and projecting its final standings in the FBS rat race.

With Meyer wearing the headset, I see that as an unlikely outcome. Ohio State in a landslide.
