Bowling Green

It is no surprise to see the Falcons in the MAC title game. They won the East but have no momentum heading into this one as they dropped their final regular season game at home to Ball State as a heavy favourite. The last time these two programs met was a year ago on the same stage, a 20 point victory for Bowling Green.  A lot has changed in the makeup of the team since then as they are much less defensive minded since coach Clawson left for the greener pastures of the ACC.

Case in point on the defensive struggles is last week when they gave up 41 points at home to a Ball State team that had only reached that total once before all season. Lucky for them this year NIU team is not an offensive juggernaut.

However, they are going to need to be able to get some stops to give their own offense, which is better than average a chance. QB James Knapke will have to have a strong game.

Northern Illinois

This Huskies team is not a threat to gain any significant national recognition this season but they have once again won double-digit games and find themselves in the MAC title game.  The offense has not been quite as prolific this season as they haven’t found a QB that can pass to compliment the run as much as they have in the past. But that ground game is still top notch, cranking out nearly 250 yards per game – 12th in the nation. They have won their last 6 games and are a solid favourite.

First year QB Drew Hare is not Jordan Lynch. That being said he threw just one interception this season while leading the team in rushing so it is not like he is a bum. With those kind of numbers you can tell that he is not going to put the team in too many bad situations and if he keeps that up on Friday night they will bring the MAC trophy back to DeKalb, Illinois. This is the 5th straight title game for the Huskies.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 5-0 in Falcons last 5 games in December.
  • Under is 7-0 in Falcons last 7 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Falcons are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
  • Under is 5-0 in Huskies last 5 conference games.
  • Under is 5-0 in Huskies last 5 games overall.
  • Under is 6-0 in Huskies last 6 games following a S.U. win.

NCAAF Prediction:  Northern Illinois -6.5

The Huskies will take back the title on Friday night.

4* NCAAF Score prediction:  Northern Illinois 33 – Bowling Green 24

These teams will feel each other out for a half but don’t sweat it. The Huskies ground game will take over in the second.
