Wisconsin

The good news for the Wisconsin Baders? This road game isn’t really a road game. It’s played on a neutral field, which is a serious plus against one of the top teams in the country.

The bad news is that, despite being just one spot lower in the rankings to the Tigers, the Badgers are five-point underdogs entering their first contest of the 2-14 college football season.

Wisconsin is well-accustomed to this type of scenario. This year included, the Badgers have played a ranked opponent (non-conference) on a neutral field to start a season for the fourth time in five years.

Dan Voltz and Warren Herring are two players to watch in this one, as the front line on both sides of the ball could prove to be crucial when it comes to success against the SEC’s LSU.

LSU

In order for the Tigers to walk away victorious in this one, it’s going to be important for them to control the trenches. This group has a lot of experience on the offensive line, and on the other side of the ball, it’s going against a team that was second in the Big Ten in rushing defense last season.

According to reports, Les Miles has a starter at quarterback, but he won’t announce who it will be until closer to kickoff. This leaves the fans wondering how the Tigers will perform offensively this season, but the fact that Miles acknowledges a decision has been made is a good sign.

Truth be told, there are a lot of similarities between these two programs. This game could go either way, especially if the uncertainty at quarterback is a bit more ambiguous on LSU’s front than is being advertised.

CFB football handicapping trends

  • LSU is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
  • LSU is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Wisconsin’s last 6 games
  • Wisconsin is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games

Week 1 College Football Betting Prediction

LSU is the favorite in this one, and understandably so. The Tigers have talent at virtually every postions (and more so than the Badgers) but running back could be the deciding factor, which goes Wisconsin’s way.

A five-point spread isn’t too bold to call if you’re an LSU fan, but at this point, you’re better taking the Tigers in a close win, or if you’re feeling risky, LSU in a close loss.

ATS Prediction: Wisconsin +5
