TCU

In terms of style points, TCU got zero in last weeks 34-30 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks. While they showed resilience and did not panic when down by 10 in the second half, the Horned Frogs sneaked by the now 3-8 Jayhawks to win their fifth in a row.

With the Big 12 not having a championship game and two mediocre opponents left on their schedule, TCU will need to win and win big in their clash with Texas.

The good news for TCU? They will have the national spotlight on them come Thursday. Being the only marquee game on the slate Thanksgiving night, the committee will give their full attention when TCU takes the field. Look for TCU’s high scoring offense (45.9 points per game) to try and put up as many points possible in order to impress voters.

Horned Frogs Junior QB Trevone Boykin ranks third in the country in total offensive production. Boykin has thrown for 3,021 yards to along with his 24 throwing touchdowns. Boykin is also getting the job done with his feet, running for 548 yards and 7 touchdowns.

On the road this season, TCU is 3-1 S.U. and 2-2 ATS. They’re averaging 44.8 points a contest. Their lone lost came at the hands of Baylor, where the Horned Frogs failed to hold on to a 4th quarter lead.

Texas

The Longhorns are in the midst of playing some of their best football all season. Winners of three in a row, Sophomore QB Tyrone Swoopes has led Texas to Bowl eligibility. Texas will look to knock off their second ranked opponent this season, the first coming against the Mountaineers two weeks ago.

While Swoopes continues to be the leader for the Longhorn offense, Running backs Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray have led Texas to 154.0 rush yards a game (77th). The pair has combined for 13 touchdowns and almost 1,300 yards on the ground. Look for Texas to set the tone early and establish both backs on the ground.

In Austin this season, the Longhorns are 3-3 S.U. and 3-3 ATS. They’re averaging just 25.0 points a game at home thus far.

In order to pull off an upset here, they’ll most certainly need to surpass that total and keep ground with the high powered TCU offense.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Horned Frogs are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 conference games.
  • Horned Frogs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
  • Longhorns are 5-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Longhorns are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games.

While Texas has strung together some solid wins in a row, they’re running into a team that can strike at any time. Texas will keep this game close in the first half, but simply do not have enough fire power to go score for score with TCU.

Free 4* NCAA Football Prediction: TCU -6.5

Getting the #5 team in the nation under a touchdown has really good value here.

TCU 41, Texas 21

TCU pulls away in the 2nd half behind Boykin.
