Both of these squads have the luxury of coming off Week 2 byes. While that’s good news for both programs, the bad news is that each team has a well-rested opponent early in the year.

San Diego State

San Diego State can hold its head high coming off its last loss. Following a dominant 38-7 win in Week 1 over Northern Arizona, the Aztecs took then-ranked No. 21 North Carolina to the wire, barely falling in a 31-27 contest on the road.

Against Oregon State, San Diego State will look for a similar showing.

So far on the year, the Aztecs have given up just 19 points per contest. That number is good enough for 31st in the nation, and it helps make up for being just the 64th-best team in terms of their own scoring (although they are successfully putting up 32.5 points per game).

Through the air, this team has been effective enough to rack up 273 yards per game, which has been good enough for 44th in the nation. On the ground, the team is 56th, as it’s recording 181.0 yards per game.

The strategy in this one will be a defensive one, and it will focus almost exclusively on the opposing passing game. Oregon State has found more balance in its attack in two games than it did all of 2013, but with Sean Mannion leading the way, the Beavers are all about the pass.

Oregon State

So far this season, Oregon State is compiling 314 yards per contest through the air. That number is 25th in the nation, and it’s the reason why the team is averaging 33.5 points per game.

Defensively, Oregon State has stepped up its game from a season ago. We’re only in Week 3, but the 22 points per game the Beavers are giving up are a breath of fresh air for fans in Corvallis.

In terms of yards per game allowed, OSU is 13th in the nation, giving up just 275 yards per game.

[dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

When it comes to opponents’ passing games, the Beavers rank 19th, giving up just 159.5 yards per contest, and against the run, Oregon State is 37th with 115.5 yards per contest allowed.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 6-2 in SDSU last 8 non-conference games.
  • Under is 12-5 in SDSU last 17 games on fieldturf.

Week 4 NCAA Football

The Beavers should walk away with a home win in this one, but the question is whether or not they can cover a double-digit spread. If this number fluctuates and dips below 10 the closer we get, Oregon State becomes a more reliable bet.
