With huge implications in this game, it’s a must-win situation for both programs. The loser will likely be too far removed from the College Football Playoffs to stand a chance, but the winner will be on course to a hopefully successful recovery.

Oregon

For just the second time this season, the Oregon Ducks are ready to hit the road. Their first road trip saw them put up a surprisingly underwhelming performance against the pass-happy Washington State Cougars, and now they face their second ranked opponent of the year down at the Rose Bowl.

At this point in the year, quarterback Marcus Mariota is the only true reason we’re still considering this team near elite. The Heisman hopeful lost some notoriety this past week with a loss to unranked Arizona, but nonetheless, the Ducks are 16th in the nation in passing and ninth in the nation in points scored.

Where the Ducks are struggling the most is on the offensive line. Battered and beaten, this group of men up front is struggling to protect Mariota — not to mention struggling to block for runs. The Ducks are a respectable 35th in the nation in rushing yards per game, but that’s a far cry from what they’re used to, especially considering the three-headed monster this group has in the backfield.

UCLA

As many critiques as there are for the Oregon Ducks, the UCLA Bruins aren’t much better off. They fell to No. 18 this past weekend with a loss to unranked Utah, and now their defense, which is ranked 72nd in points per game allowed, is going up against one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

Luckily for UCLA, it has a Heisman-caliber quarterback as well in Brett Hundley. The youngster has led the Bruins to nearly 300 yards per game passing (27th in the nation), which has translated to 36 points per game (34th).

Expect the passing game, and more specifically passing defense, to be a theme in this one. UCLA will look to take advantage of Oregon, which is 107th in the nation in passing yards allowed per game; however, the Bruins are 122nd in that same category.

The Bruins are just 104th in total yards allowed per game this season, while Oregon is 87th.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 23-9-1 in UCLA last 33 games in October.
  • ORE are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games on grass.
  • ORE are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
  • ORE are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 road games.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

The Ducks have not been good ATS as of late, but while part of that has to do with their subpar play, it has more to do with the incredibly high point spreads they’ve been working with.

Free NCAA Betting Pick 4* Oregon -2.5

Luckily for the Ducks, that theme should change this week with a 2.5-point spread against UCLA. The Bruins have home-field advantage, but Oregon is seemingly in better shape when it comes to making the playoffs, giving it more motivation to pull out a win even if it’s close late.
