A battle for pride and integrity is on the line when these two teams meet.

North Carolina State

With their win over Wake Forest last week, North Carolina State became bowl eligible 4th time in 5 years. While that is an accomplishment itself, beating North Carolina in Chapel Hill may top that feat.

North Carolina State finally got a running back over 100 yards this season in their win over Wake. Junior RB Shadrach Thornton rushed 16 times for 110 yards and a touchdown. To beat North Carolina this week, Thornton will need to have a similar performance and help keep the North Carolina State offense in 3rd down and short situations.

On the defensive side of the ball, getting off the field on third down will be crucial. The Wolfpack defense finally found an answer to that last game when they forced Wake forest into 7 first half punts.

On the road this season, North Carolina State is 2-2 S.U. and 3-1 ATS. While they average allowing 28.8 points a game (83rd), their defense steps up on the road allowing just 26.2 points.

North Carolina

While North Carolina will fall short of the ACC Coastal division, a win over North Carolina State will give them consecutive wins over arch rivals. Last week, North Carolina went on the road and demolished Duke 45-20. The Tar Heels defense forced 3 turnovers and ran one of those back for a touchdown in a dominant performance against the then #25 team in the nation.

The Tar Heels offense was clicking on all cylinders last week, racking up 591 yards of total offense. The Tar Heels dual threat QB Marquise Williams racked up 374 yards in total to go along with 4 touchdowns. This marked the fourth time they’ve totaled over 500 yards on offense this season.

In Chapel Hill this season, North Carolina is 4-1 S.U. and 2-3 ATS. They’re scoring 38.4 points a game and allowing 33.6.

Like the Wolfpack, the Tar Heels became bowl eligible with their win last week.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Wolfpack are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games on grass.
  • Wolfpack are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Tar Heels are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
  • Tar Heels are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

North Carolina has dominated this rivalry going 65-32-6 all time. In last years contest, the Tar Heels took care of business 27-19 while totaling 427 yards of offense.

Free 4* NCAA Football Pick: North Carolina -6.5

While this game will feature a lot of ground and pound with both teams running backs, look for both offenses to pull out a couple trick plays they’ve saved for this game.

North Carolina 40, North Carolina State 24

In the end, the Tar Heels offense behind Marquise Williams is too much for the Wolfpack to handle.
