Minnesota

With aspirations of making the Big Ten title game this year, Minnesota was bumped from the drivers seat in the Big Ten West last week following their 31-24 loss to Ohio State. Even with the loss, they still control their own destiny needing a win down in Lincoln, Nebraska and then up in Madison, Wisconsin week 14.

The Golden Gophers will look to expose the Nebraska run defense again with standout RB David Cobb. Cobb is averaging 135.0 yards on the ground per game, which is ranks seventh nationally for all running backs. As a team, Minnesota is averaging 223.7 rush yard per game (28th).

To give themselves any chance at pulling off the outright upset, getting out to an early lead and putting some pressure on Nebraska is a must. A couple early touchdowns will take the Lincoln crowd out of the game and force Nebraska out of their comfort zone.

In three road contests this year, Minnesota is 1-2 and averaging just 20.3 points a game.

Nebraska

While Minnesota has the seventh ranked running back in the nation, Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah isn’t too far behind as he ranks ninth in the country. Look for a heavy dosage of him when the Nebraska offense takes the field this week against the second best turnover forcing defense in the Big Ten. Minnesota has forced 25 turnovers on defense this season, which includes three last week against the Buckeyes.

Senior RB Ameer Abdullah has ran for 1319 yards this season with 17 touchdowns. He is averaging 6.5 yards per carry as well. Abdullah will look to avenge his efforts last week where he ran for just 69 yards on 18 carries. After scoring at least one touchdown in his first eight games, he has failed to find the end zone in his last two.

Getting QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. going will also be a key for the Cornhuskers. Like the rest of the offense, Armstrong Jr. struggled mightily last week going 6 for 18 with just 62 yards and an interception.

Nebraska has their sights set on finishing the season 7-0 at home for the second time in the last three years.

Nebraska’s offense is averaging 41.5 points per game in Lincoln and the defense is allowing just 19.0 points.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Golden Gophers are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 conference games.
  • Golden Gophers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game.
  • Cornhuskers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
  • Over is 5-0 in Cornhuskers last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record

Week 13 NCAA Football

With their loss to Wisconsin last week, Nebraska will have to win out and get some major help from Iowa and then Minnesota week 14 to get into the Big Ten Title game. Look for Minnesota to pound the ball with RB David Cobb and control the clock all game.

Free 4* NCAA Football Pick: Minnesota +10

Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini took some fire for last weeks debacle. If they fall behind early, things could get tense in Lincoln.

Nebraska 31, Minnesota 30

Look for this game to be decided late in the 4th quarter.
