Arizona State

The Arizona State Sun Devils were supposed to be good this season. They were supposed to compete for a spot in the Pac-12 Championship, as evidenced by their preseason rankings.

All that said, they’re surprising the nation with their No. 6 ranking with just thre weeks remaining in the regular season.

Although it would seem the team’s only tough game remaining is Arizona (currently ranked 14th) in the season finale (and, of course, the Pac-12 Championship), the Sun Devils can’t look past their current opponent: the Oregon State Beavers.

So far this season, the Beavers have been about as one-dimensional as it comes. For that reason, the Sun Devils will look to defend the pass as well as they’ve done all season.

[dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

On the year, Arizona State is 78th in defending the pass, and also 78th in defending the run. Oregon State, however, is as far from a running team as you could be, giving the Sun Devils a much easier plan of attack than they would have had otherwise.

Oregon State

Oregon State’s defense has not been good this season. The team is giving up 29.8 points per contest, which is only good enough for 88th in the country.

Unfortunately, the offense has been just as bad. The Beavers are scoring just 26.8 points per game, which is only good enough for 82nd in the nation.

Where the team has found some success is through the air. Despite running the ball for just 108.6 yards each week (115th in the nation), the team has compiled 280.4 yards per game through the air. That number is 3oth in the nation.

There was talk this past week of head coach Mike Riley possibly beginning a youth movement early to begin planning for the future. However, that notion was put to rest almost as quickly as it was conceived.

The Beavers are going to play their starters and compete at the highest level they can. The question is: Will it be good enough?

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 7-3 in ASU last 10 games on fieldturf.
  • Over is 17-8 in ASU last 25 road games.
  • Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

Week 12 NCAA Football

While it’s safe to assume the Beavers are going to fight at home, you have to wonder for how long. Arizona State is aiming big with the College Playoffs around the corner, and a loss (or even a close win) would be the opposite of help when it comes to impressing pollsters.

4* Free NCAA Betting Pick Arizona State -9

Look for the Sun Devils to do work against Oregon State. This one should be a double-digit game in their favor by the time the clock strikes zero.
