Free Picks: Wyoming vs. #4 Oregon Gambling Lines & Handicapping Preview

Week 3: Cowboys vs Ducks Odds

College football Week 3 betting action sees the Wyoming Cowboys taking on the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. Cappers Picks provides free NCAA football handicapping tips all season long.

At this point, Oregon is the heavy favorites, and will be until the clock strikes zero. The only question here is whether or not the Ducks can cover the spread, which will be one of the highest — if not the highest — nationwide this week.

Expect this one to go Oregon’s way from the opening kickoff, and expect things to get out of hand early.

Wyoming

If Wyoming has anything going for it on offense, it’s consistency. The team is about as even as it comes between running and passing the ball; the problem is that neither facet of the offense is very good at this point in the process.

Through two games, the Cowboys are averaging 187 yards per game through the air, which is good enough for 95th in the country. Running, they gain 130 yards per contest, which puts them at 130th nationwide.

In total, the Cowboys are scoring 17 points per game, which is only good enough for 115th in the nation. Defense is where this team has actually looked good through two weeks. The team is giving up just 12.5 points per game, which is good enough for 20th across the country.

The problem for Wyoming is that it’s going up against the No. 2 team in the country. Its defense has found success against the likes of Montana and Air Force. The Cowboys gave up 12 and 13 points, respectively, to those opponents, but they know that those types of numbers simply aren’t going to happen against the Ducks.

Oregon

So far this season, the Oregon Ducks are averaging 54 points per contest. That puts them at sixth in the nation, and it’s because of their fast-paced, extremely efficient offense.

With quarterback Marcus Mariota leading the way, Oregon is averaging 349 yards per game through the air (14th). It’s also using a two-headed monster at running back (three if you think about the fact that Byron Marshall, one of the team’s best receivers this year, is also a running back) to compile 233 yards per game on the ground (29th).

Defensively, this group has also been strong, giving up just 20 points per contest. Like Wyoming, this is a solid number early in the year. Unlike Wyoming, the Ducks have already been tested with a top-to opponent in Michigan State last week (46-27 W).

The biggest question here is: How long will Oregon keep its starters in the game? Will it pull them late in the third? Half way through the fourth?

That will be the biggest difference-maker in covering the spread, as the Ducks are favored by 43 just days before kickoff.

NCAA football handicapping trends

  • WYO are 1-7 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • WYO are 21-9 ATS in their last 30 road games.
  • Over is 29-11-2 in ORE last 42 games in September.
  • ORE are 13-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Over is 35-15-1 in ORE last 51 home games.

Week 3 NCAA Football Prediction

Although a 43-point spread is monumental to cover, Oregon shouldn’t have a problem doing so. It’s outscoring its opponents by an average of 34 points so far, but that’s including a big-time matchup against the Spartans.

4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Oregon -43

Against a more comparable opponent, South Dakota, the Ducks won 62-13. Expect a similar showing in this one, and don’t be shocked if Oregon walks away with a win both straight up and ATS.
