They will have a decent opportunity to do so, seeing as the Huskies only have two themselves.

SMU

There haven’t been very many positive events throughout the year for the Mustangs. Coach June Jones left the team two weeks into the season and it’s been all downhill after that. They are only averaging 9.6 points per game, while giving up 43.3.

SMU came very close to getting their first win three weeks ago when they lost to South Florida 14-13, but have been outscored 88-16 since.

The Mustangs just hired their new coach, Chad Morris. He wants to turn the offensive into an up-tempo passing attack. Previously, he was the offensive coordinator at Clemson.

Generating offense has been a huge problem for SMU this year. They have tried a couple different quarterbacks, who have all thrown for more interceptions than touchdowns.

Der-rikk Thompson is leading the Mustangs in receiving yards with 512, but only has one touchdown on the year.

If the Mustangs want to get their first victory of the year, he is going to have to have a big game. Fortunately for SMU, they aren’t faced with a powerhouse opponent in Connecticut.

Connecticut

The Huskies will look to finish their season on a high-note at senior night on Saturday. They haven’t had many highlights either this year.

They are coming off a 41-10 loss against Memphis on the road. Connecticut has struggled to put up points this year, only averaging 15.1.

The Huskies have dropped three in a row, but got a strong performance out of freshman running back Ron Johnson. Johnson rushed for 67 yards, but his coach was happy with what he saw.

Senior quarterback Chandler Whitmer has thrown for nearly 1,500 yards to go along with 11 touchdowns. He has played well throughout stretches this year, and would like to see his career end on a win at home on senior night.

Last week, safety Andrew Adams recorded a career high 13 tackles which moves his years’ total to 93.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trend:

  • Huskies are 1-5 ATS in its last 6 home games.
  • SMU Total has gone OVER in 7 of 11 games this year.
  • Huskies Total has gone over in three of their last four.
  • SMU is 3-8 ATS in 11 games this year.

Both teams will be playing hard as it will be the final game of the season, and final career game for seniors. Because of Senior Night for the Huskies, I expect their emotions to be running high. SMU will have their best opportunity of the year to pick up their first win, but I don’t see that happening. The new head coach was just hired and isn’t experienced with this system.

I expect Chandler Whitmer to end his career on a high note and pick up the win. He will have to put up some points in order for the Huskies to pick up their their win.

Free NCAA Betting Pick 4* OVER 45.5

With the O/U line at 45.5 it makes the OVER very manageable.

Final Score — Connecticut 28, SMU 21

SMU will come close to getting their first win of the year, but it will be too much for them against the Huskies on Senior Night.
