Conference USA action kicks off the week and this is an important one between contenders in the West Division. Whoever gets the win will get a real leg up heading into the heart of the season.

Louisiana Tech

Louisiana Tech has split their first two games. It was no surprise that they got walloped by Oklahoma but their win against Lafayette probably went under the radar.

They were 15 point underdogs in that one and won outright by 28 points on the road against what could wind up being the best team in the Sun Belt this season. It seems like LT might be more of a factor in Conference USA West than expected.

They will have to prove it against North Texas. A team that beat them last year.

Against ULL quarterback Cody Sokol was very efficient but the difference was probably more the running game. Against OU they averaged less than 2 yards per carry but last week that number jumped to nearly 7.

You can say all you want about pass happy offenses dominating but you still have to be able to run the ball at least a little bit.

That is going to be key for the Bulldogs if they are going to get another win on the road.

North Texas

The Mean Green got rolled in their opener against Texas but responded in a big way last week by beating SMU 43-6 as just a 2.5 point favourite.

They are definitely expected to be a factor in the CUSA West this season and get a chance to kickoff their conference schedule at home on Thursday. I don’t want to take anything away from North Texas but that final is a bit deceiving as they were the beneficiary of 5 Mustang turnovers.

Their defense is not that good normally.

One thing they may be able to repeat was their success running the ball.

The Mean Green put up better than 240 yards on the ground with 4 players rushing for 40 yards or more. They are going to try and play ball control against Louisiana Tech and have the horses to do it.

In last year’s victory they outrushed the Bulldogs by more than 100 yards. If they can do that again they should win and cover in the process.

NCAA Football Week 3 Prediction: 4* Free Play on North Texas -4.5

There is some decent value in this one with North Texas.

NCAAF Score prediction:  North Texas 31 – Louisiana Tech 23

They are the better team and should probably be getting more respect at home – even if their win over SMU was a bit of a mirage.
