Iowa State is coming off a 3-9 season a year ago, and their start to this season hasn’t been any better. The Cyclones were guilty of looking past FCS opponent North Dakota State in their opener and it resulted in a rout.

They put forth a much better effort in their Week 2 matchup against Kansas State, leading the game 28-13 late in the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t close that one out.

The Cyclones defense has allowed 976 yards of offense through two games, with 534 of those yards coming on the ground. On offense, the team hasn’t been overly impressive, accumulating 5.5 yards per attempt through the air and 3.3 yards per attempt on the ground.

Things haven’t been very different for the Hawkeyes. Their ground game has been slow out of the gates. Quarterback Jake Rudock’s 53 rushing yards lead the team. It’s been another story with the team’s rush defense, though. That unit hasn’t allowed a rushing touchdown.

They’ve also really tightened down as a whole inside the red zone, with opponents kicking field goals in each of five trips into the Hawkeyes’ red zone.

The Hawkeyes will be looking for a sixth consecutive non-conference victory in the regular season when they take to the field in this one.

That’s because the team was able to rally last weekend against Ball State, scoring 14 points in the final six points of that one to down the red birds 17-13.

Free Iowa vs. Iowa State Pick:

Iowa simply outclasses Iowa State at the moment, and should be able to continue their dominance in the series between these two instate rivals.

10 points is a lot of points to give away on a team that’s struggled on offense as much as the Hawkeyes have thus far, but a date with the Cyclones’ defense should cure what ails them.

Additionally, a low number in this one considering the class of defenders the Cyclones bring to Iowa City on this day.

They should give a decent boost to an Iowa offense looking to make a statement. As for the Iowa State offense, they’ll come out motivated and find a way to put points on the board.

The Hawkeyes are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss, while the Cyclones are 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games.

The over is 5-0 in the Hawkeyes’ last five games versus opponents with a losing record, and it is 4-1-1 in the Cyclones’ last six road games.
