The Gamecocks will be looking for revenge after their embarrassing week one loss. The Pirates don’t want to be considered a gimme game and will look to avoid becoming a South Carolina punching bag.

Already going in the Pirates’ favor is news that South Carolina running back Mike Davis may miss the game with bruised ribs.

East Carolina

Things went so well in the 52-7 beating they dispensed in week 1 that Pirates wide receiver Justin Hardy threw a 41 yard touchdown pass. Hardy also had 8 receptions for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The team’s leading receiver is Isaiah Jones who had 10 catches for 150 yards and was the recipient of Hardy’s pass.

Shane Carden lead the Pirates in passing with 283 yards and 3 touchdowns on 26 of 37 completions. Carden passed for 4,139 and 99 touchdowns to only 10 interceptions last year, his Junior season.

On the ground, Marquez Grayson lead the team with 78 yards while Freshman Anthony Scott had 61 yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Pirates are gearing up for the conference schedule, their first time through the American Athletic Conference gauntlet after making the move from Conference USA. While they won their first game 52-7, but their defense has a lot of questions to answer.

A game against the Gamecocks will answer those questions.

South Carolina

The loss to Texas A&M hurt South Carolina a lot. Unfortunately for East Carolina, they are next on the Gamecock schedule. Steve Spurrier and company are looking for a rebound game to show that South Carolina hasn’t lost their mojo.

Senior Quarterback Dylan was no slouch in his debut, for what it’s worth. Despite his 50% completion rate, he still threw for 366 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception. Two of those touchdowns went to Senior receiver Nick Jones who had 5 catches for 113 yards to go with his scores.

The rush game was lacking, with Junior Brandon Wilds leading the way on the ground with 45 yards. He added 32 yards through the air as well.

The defense has the most questions to answer after giving up 680 yards of total offense, including 551 yards through the air to the Aggies.

After week one, South Carolina’s performance has them sitting at #118 out of 122 in total defense in college football.

You want to give the Pirates a chance. You really do. After the reality check the Gamecocks were dealt last week, it’s hard to bet against them in this one.

Carden will do his best to keep up, but South Carolina wins this one pretty handily..
