The Baylor Bears bring in their high-powered offense to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders’ poor pass defense.

Baylor

The Bears come into this game the #1 team in the country in points per game, averaging 50. Even more impressive is the fact that the Bears are averaging over 60 points per game in the past four meetings with the Red Raiders.

Baylor’s lethal passing attack is led by quarterback Bryce Petty and running back Shock Linwood. Petty has passed for almost 2,700 yards and has accounted for 36 total touchdowns. Coach Briles has tried to keep his team focused on this game and not looking ahead, but it is hard to do when you have the best passing attack in the nation.

The Bears have won three straight after suffering their only loss of the season a few weeks ago. In last year’s matchup with the Red Raiders, Petty threw for 335 yards with three passing TDs and two rushing TDs. Linwood rushed for a career high 187 yards and had a score as well.

Linwood is also coming off three consecutive 100 yard rushing efforts after rushing for 113 and a scored against Oklahoma State last week.

Baylor receivers Coleman and Cannon have accounted for over 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns as well. Petty, Linwood, Coleman, and Cannon are the four weapons that make up the most dangerous offense in the country.

Texas Tech

Since Patrick Mahomes has taken over the offense has looked efficient. He became the first signal-caller to throw four touchdowns in consecutive games. Mahomes took the reigns from the injured Davis Webb who had thrown for 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns.

The true freshman has performed very well says head coach Kliff Kingsbury, but he still has a lot of learning to do.

Runningback Deandre Washington has rushed for over 1,000 yards this year, but in the pass dominated offense he has only scored twice.

The Red Raider defense is led by Pete Robertson, who has ten sacks and is tied for second in the conference. The leading receivers Grant and Marquez, have around 1,500 yards combined to go along with 13 touchdowns.

Texas Tech ranks sixth in the nation in passing yards per game with 327. Last week they picked up a 34-31 win against Iowa State in which Mahomes threw for 328 yards.

Mahomes must have a huge game if the Red Raiders want to put up a fight in this one.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Total has gone over in 5 of last 6 Baylor games.
  • Red Raiders are 3-6 ATS in last nine road games.
  • Baylor is 15-3 ATS in last 18 home games.
  • Total has gone over in 17 of last 24 Texas Tech road games.

This game holds the potential to have 100 total points posted. With the best scoring offense in the league taking on one of the worst scoring defenses’ look for a shoot out. Petty will have another 300+ yard game and a ton of points will be put up.

Baylor is averaging over 60 points vs. Texas Tech and I think they will stay right on pace with that average after this game. Texas Tech does not have any hope of stopping the Bears, they can only hope to contain them.

But if they want to win this ball game they are going to have to out score the Bears.

Both teams have phenomenal offenses and will be putting up points in this rivalry game.

Final Score– Baylor 66, Texas Tech 24

Look for Baylor to come out and build a lead, then Texas Tech will get a couple scores to tighten it up.
