The Huskies almost allowed 600 yards last week in Eugene while missing 30 tackles in their embarassing loss. Despite a usually good defense, the Huskies got steamrolled by the Ducks after stymying Stanford for most of their game.

Arizona State may have missed Taylor Kelly, but Mike Bercovici was a very capable replacement. The team is still averaging 324 passing yards and 200 rush yards and is coming off one of their better defense performances of the year.

#14 Arizona State

With Taylor Kelly returning from his foot injury, Bercovici has to take a seat again. But not without his due recognition. In relief of Kelly, Bercovici went 101 of 163 for 1,322 yards, 10 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Before his injury, Kelly was 42 of 68 for 625 yards, 6 touchdowns and no interceptions.

The ground game has revolved around D.J. Foster who has 97 carries for 612 yards and 6 touchdowns. Foster is also the team’s second leading receiver with 28 grabs for 378 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is currently second in the nation in All-Purpose yards with 164 a game.

If you don’t know who Jaelen Strong is, you’ve been missing out. The Sun Devil wide receiver has 49 catches for 689 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season. And he’s done it with style, including his reception of the hail mary against USC that gave the Sun Devils the win in the final seconds of that game.

Cameron Smith also has 21 receptions for 307 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Damarious Randall leads the team with 58 tackles on the season, including 6 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Both Jordan Simone and Christian Sam have an interception while two players are tied for the team lead in sacks with 2 a piece.

Washington

The Huskies are facing quite a dilemma coming into this game. Cyler Miles left last week’s game early against Oregon, sending Troy Williams out in relief. Washington is still unsure who is going to start. Miles is 104 of 157 for 1,043 yards, 10 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also has 124 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns.

In relief last week, Williams tallied 37 yards passing on 5 of 10 passing. He also had 33 yards on the ground a rushing touchdown.

The Huskies are also unsure who will start at running back with both Lavon Coleman and Dwayne Washington battling injuries. Coleman has 106 carries for 438 yards and a score while Washington has racked up 239 yards and 3 touchdowns via 63 carries.

If neither back can go, expect Deontae Cooper (20 carries, 105 yards) and Jesse Callier (19 carries, 91 yards, 1 touchdown) to pick up the workload.

The biggest story so far this season has been the Husky defense. Despite a close loss against Stanford and a blowout in Eugene, the Husky defensive line has been one of the best in the country. Hau’oli Kikaha is leading the nation in both sacks with 12.5 and tackles for loss with 15.5. He’s also got 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

Danny Shelton, who is leading the team in tackles with 57, is also 5th in the nation in sacks with 7.5. He also has 12 tackles for loss.

Marcus Peters has 3 interceptions and 6 passes defended while Shaq Thompson has 44 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 4 passes defended, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.

Week 9 NCAA Football Prediction

This could be a much closer game than many think it will be. Despite lacking offensive power as of late, the Husky defense has kept the team in games and have even given them the edge with their defensive scores.
