FIU Panthers 2015 Preview NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-2016 Football Previews – (C-USA) – Panthers

After suffering a 4-8 year in an uprising conference, the Florida International Panthers will look to rebound and get themselves back into a postseason bowl.

Conference USA 2015-2015 College Football Preview- Florida International Panthers

Head Coach: Ron Turner
2014 Record: 4-8
Florida International Odds to win C-USA: +3000

Many things went wrong for Florida International last season. They had many costly turnovers, failed to get big stops on defense, and allowed pretty much every single team in C-USA to run all over them.

However, they have better hopes this season as they return many starters and 2nd string players, and brought in some new assistants to get this program turned around.

After the season FIU had in 2014, it’s extremely tough to think anything will be different in 2015. Even though they have all those returning starters, they still only one year older and those players weren’t good last season.

However, they remain optimistic that the new coaching staff additions along with maturity of their players can turn this around.

As the season went on last year, FIU started to improve. They had a freshman at QB and RB, but they started to show some signs of life. The defense started to buckle down and get off the field on 3rd downs too.

Can they carry those positives over into the 2015-2016 season?

Team Strengths

Defense: While it’s not that easy to find a lot of strengths within FIU, they still offered some major improvements. They allowed only 24.8 points a game and held their first 6 opponents around or below that number.

Their ranks were too bad as they were 36th overall, 56th against the rush, and 30th against the pass.

If they can find a way to get their points against down and find a way to get off the field on 3rd downs consistently, they could be just what FIU needs to turn this thing around.

Team Weaknesses

Offensive Production: The Panthers just simply didn’t produce on offense. When you throw a freshman QB and a freshman RB out there, it is just setting up for disaster. While at times, especially late in the season, they looked good, at other times they struggled and couldn’t move the ball.

The Panthers only averaged 23.0 points per game which was in the 100s when it came to rankings. Hopefully the maturity of their backfield can get that point average up or it’ll be a long year for them once again.

2015-2016 Florida International Panthers Prediction: 5-7

Being realistic, the Panthers just aren’t there yet. While they have many returning starters and 2nd stringers, they are still the youngest bunch in Conference USA.

While they will improve, it is just quite foolish to think they can compete with the likes of Marshall or Western Kentucky in this conference.

People can give FIU and outside chance to possible crash bowl season, but they’ll need to do a little upsetting and get hot early in the season. If they fail to get out of the gates quick, things will be abysmal once again for the Panthers.

A record of 5-7 is a safe prediction because it’s realistic to see this team staying in more games this year against conference opponents. It’ll come down to those key stops or key offensive drives late that will determine their fate.
