Week #2:  Central Michigan vs Purdue

Week two of the college football season see Central Michigan taking on Purdue on the road at Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday September 6.  Cappers Picks provides free college football handicapping tips all season long.

Purdue is looking for their second straight win over a MAC team at home on Saturday. Neither team is all that good so this one should be pretty competitive.

Central Michigan

This may be the MAC vs. The Big 10 but don’t discount the Chippewas, Purdue hasn’t been up to conference standards in a while. Speaking of standards CMU is looking to crawl back up to the top of the league and should show some progress this season.

In addition to having an emerging QB in Cooper Rush they have lots of experience around him, especially up front. CMU should be able to be productive on offense, even on the road.  It will put pressure on Purdue to do the same.

You can make a nice argument for the visitors but at the same time they have never beaten the Boilermakers in 5 tries.

Further the Chippewas have not had much success against Big Ten overall. However, they have been known to pull of some surprise upsets like in 2012 at Iowa and 2009 at Michigan State.

To pull off another one Rush is going to have to have a strong game.

Purdue

Western Michigan is a feisty team but the Boilermakers got the victory in the opener last week, snapping a 10 game losing streak in the process. Last year they couldn’t even muster a FBS win so already they are ahead of the game in year 2 of the Darrell Hazell era.

Hazell is familiar with the MAC from his time at Kent State so he might show a little more respect than some other coaches. They want to get this one to get to 2-0 before they meet up with Notre Dame next week.

Hazzell is hoping that the first week is an indicator of what is to come on offense this season.

They scored 43 points against Western Michigan after never scoring more than 36 in any game last year. The running game was especially impressive with more than 220 yards. WMU is hardly a defensive juggernaut but Purdue should be able to have similar success against CUM on Saturday.

I would have thought the Boilermakers would be more than a 3 points favourite.

NCAA Football Week 2 Prediction:  4* Free Play on Purdue -3

NCAAF Score prediction:  Purdue 31 – Central Michigan 24

This is a pretty nice value having to cover just three points with a B10 team at home against the MAC. Neither of these teams is all the good but with some improvements on offense Purdue is a solid play.
