Boise State

A victory would tie them with Fresno State and San Diego State, who they have beaten and lost to earlier this season.  I am not sure who becomes the champ in the event of a three way tie.  Either way this season isn’t up to the Bronco’s high standards.

The Broncos have had trouble at Nevada in the past so they should be focused heading into the finale.  This year’s team has been one that has relied on a superior defense (5th in the nation giving up just 14ppg) instead of an unpredictably productive offense.

It shows how good this program is that 9-2 is a disappointment.  This is Boise State not Florida State after all.  It should be an entertaining finale.

That is in part because these teams have a nice long history from their time together in the WAC.  Those 8+ points are a big number for this Broncos team, even if they have been 4-1 ATS on the road this season.  Boise is so well coached it is hard to imagine that they won’t come into this one focused looking to achieve a goal like racking up another double digit victory season.

Nevada

Nevada was looking like a contender in the Mountain West early in the season but a one point home loss to San Diego State seemed to shake the team.  They followed that with a loss at air Force then home again to Fresno State.  Those last two were double digit losses but the Wolfpack snapped the losing trend last week at New Mexico.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

They have had a lot of near misses this year but any season where they beat Boise State is a good one.

This will be a unique challenge for Nevada one of the nation’s under the radar offensive teams.  Every year the Wolfpack pound it at opponents with their ground game and now that alum Colin Kaepernick is starting on Sundays the national media might start to take notice.  Running back Stephon Jefferson is second in the nation in rushing yards per game and touchdowns while QB Cody Fajardo is challenging the standards set by Kaepernick in just his sophomore season.  They are fun to watch.

Nevada has covered the last three in this series including an upset of the Broncos two years ago in Reno.  It was the biggest win in program history and was against a better Broncos team than this one (the Wolfpack finished 13-1 that year and we no slouches either).  I don’t know if they can rekindle that kind of magic again but those 8.5 points are looking pretty juicy to me.

Spread Pick: Nevada +8.5
