The Wildcats haven’t won a game since the end of October, beating UCLA to grab a bowl bid before ending their season with four consecutive conference losses to Stanford, USC, Oregon, and Arizona State, to finish the season 7-5.

In contrast, Oklahoma State put together an outstanding season going 6-2 in Big 12 conference play and 10-2 overall with their only losses coming by way of Nebraska and cross state rival Oklahoma in their season finale.

The No. 14 Cowboys are ranked 1st in the country with 537.6 yards of offense per game and 3rd in scoring offense with 44.9 points per game. The offense is led by junior quarterback Brandon Weeden who was third in the country with 4,037 yards passing and finished the year with 32 passing touchdowns.

His favorite target, receiver Justin Blackmon, proved to be one of the most talented players in college football by posting over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown in every game he played in this season. He finished the year with 1,665 yards receiving and 20 total touchdowns.

It’s not just on the passing attack that can shred the oppositions defense, as running back Kendall Hunter also had a big year out of the backfield with 1,516 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns.

This presents a challenge for even the best defenses, and Arizona’s was good this year giving up just over 21 points per game. The Wildcats had 33 sacks this season, and they will need to put pressure on Brandon Weeden if they want to have any hope of stopping the Cowboys.

As for the Wildcats, the offense played well for the most part, putting up 30 points per game and as many as 52 in their game against Citadel in Week 2.

There were big expectations for quarterback Nick Foles, and the junior standout lived up to every one of them despite battling through an injury that forced him to sit out two games mid season. Nevertheless, Foles came through throwing for 2,911 yards and 19 touchdowns this season many of those to his favorite target, wide receiver Juron Criner. The lofty junior had 73 catches for 1,186 yards and 10 touchdowns

The offensive attack was aided by the Wildcats rushing duo of Nic Grigsby and Keola Antolin who combined for 15 touchdowns this season and are both likely to get carries against Oklahoma State.

The Cowboy’s defense is ranked 68th in the nation giving up an average of 27.8 points per game, but were never fully tested. However, when they were tested against ranked teams, they surrendered a total of 126 points including 51 to Nebraska and 47 to the Sooners. They will certainly have their hands full with the once-ranked Wildcats, and will look to double up on Criner forcing Foles to find another target to throw to. If they are successful, they may be able to slow the Wildcat offense.

Oklahoma State is the better football team on paper and they should come out with a win in this year’s Alamo Bowl. The Wildcats comes into the game with a four game losing streak, and I’m just not sure the defense is up to the task of stopping Blackmon and Hunter at the same time.

Free Pick: Oklahoma State 48 – Arizona 28
