2014 NCAA Football Betting Odds – SEC Season Preview

Free Picks! SEC Betting Futures

The BCS era is no more – at least as it pertains to the postseason – but the SEC is still looked at as arguably the most dominant conference in all of college football.

That’s not going to change with the institution of the College Football Playoff, and teams such as Auburn and Alabama will be vying for a spot in the top four when the year comes to a close.

The following is a look at which teams are the favorites to win the SEC entering the 2014 college football season, plus some free picks.

Alabama Betting Odds 7/5

The Alabama Crimson Tide are going to have a bit of a new look this season, as they’ll step out onto the field with a quarterback not named AJ McCarron for the first time in four years.

The team’s star passer is gone to the NFL, but Alabama still has the same allure it’s had for quite some time now. The Crimson Tide were voted No. 2 in the country in the first USA Today coaches poll.

The only team ahead of them? That would be the Florida State Seminoles – last year’s BCS champions.

Auburn Betting Odds 5/1

The SEC is the only team to have two teams in the top five of the first USA Today coaches poll. Alabama is No. 2, and the Auburn Tigers are No. 5. Last season, we watched Auburn take down Alabama in what was arguably the biggest win of the entire year – a win that jumpstarted a run at a BCS title.

The Tigers are lucky to have LSU at home early in the year, but the most important game once again points to the final contest of the regular season against Alabama on the road.

South Carolina  Betting Odds 5/1

Sticking with the theme of top-25 programs, the South Carolina Gamecocks are right up there with the Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide. The two aforementioned teams are the two with more winning experience, but the Gamecocks are the third team in the SEC to make the top 10 in the preseason USA Today coaches poll.

Senior Dylan Thompson has finally earned the starting quarterback job, and this will be his one chance to show what he can do in his final year.

Georgia Betting Odds 6/1

The Georgia Bulldogs are No. 12 in the preseason coaches poll. Georgia finished 2013 with a record of 8-5, but the bigger problem was that it went just 2-3 against Top-25 opponents. Luckily for the Bulldogs, their 2014 schedule should result in a better year.

Clemson and South Carolina are tough ways to start the season, but skipping Alabama and getting Auburn at home are important footnotes for this championship hopeful.

LSU Betting Odds 13/2

The LSU Tigers are the fifth SEC team to make the top 15 in the first coaches poll. They’re No. 13, as ranked by USA Today, and they’re going to compete for a spot in the top four College Football Playoff right out of the gate. The big question mark?

That would be quarterback.

Anytime you have someone new stepping in there are questions, but with a battle in camp having not yet been decided, it offers both excitement and a bit of nervousness for fans in Baton Rouge.
