Kentucky

In their closing regular season game against Flordia it was clear that this talented group of freshman does not exactly make a very good team. At the start of the seaosn they were saying they could be undefeated but now that just looks laughable. They show a spark form time to time but the light never stays on for very long.

The best frosh for Coach Cal has been Julius Randle but his numbers have come down since a hot start. The Harrison twnis looks like smooth athletes but their production has been very average that I don’t see how anyone could have thought these guys would be lottery picks. Pretty much no one is living up to expectations, not even the more experienced Willie Cauley-Stein. He is a high percentage shooter but is an afterthought offensively.

Backing the Wildcats has been a losing proposition this season. No real surprise there as they are a public team and their struggles have been well documented. On the motivation side this is a good test as they will not have the crowd behind them so it will be interesting to see how they respond. I think I will take a pass.

Georgia
The Bulldogs keep surprising and may be playing their way into the Tournament. For me I think they needd at least one more quality win which they could get against Kentucky in the semi-finals. They are a very athletic team and get complimented ofetn for being very disciplined which is kind of codee for being limited talent wise. When they played the Wildcats during the regular season the result was not good – a 25 point loss.

Georgia plays solid defense and gets most of their production from their backcourt of Kendall Gaines and Charles Mann – both average 13ppg. Against a team like Kentucy I worry that they will just get overwhelmed inside as they just don’t have the size of the Wildcats. Leading rebounder Marcus Thornton is just 6’8″ and he is going to have to contend with Randle. It is not a good matchup for him.
Georgia has been a soldi cover team this season but they have done most of their damage for bettros at home where they are 10-4 ATS. The Georgia Dome is kind of like their second home but it is generally not a great hoops venue, its just too cavernous. If they can get off to a good start they can get the crowd behind them.
