Tennessee has its head coach back on the sideline, but they still aren’t playing up to expectations right now. After starting the year on fire, they are on the outside looking in as far as the NCAA Tournament goes right now. They’ll need some big wins to get back on the right side of the bubble. This intrastate rivalry always gives the teams plenty to play for, but this game should be extra intense.

Tennessee is coming off a very disappointing home loss to Georgia this past Saturday. The Volunteers were uncharacteristically outrebounded in that game. Tennessee has lost four of its last five, and this is a team that is searching for direction right now. Scotty Hopson has been playing great, but many of the team’s other stars have been inconsistent. There aren’t many guys on this team who can stretch the defense with their shooting ability, and that has hurt them quite a bit offensively this year.

The Vanderbilt Commodores pulled off a big comeback victory at Georgia last week, and this is a team that is playing for seeding in the NCAA Tournament now. Vanderbilt is 14-1 on their home floor, and they beat Tennessee badly at home last year. The Commodores primary scorer is John Jenkins, who has the ability to take over the game at any point. Jeffrey Taylor is a good shooter and a solid second option. The growth of Festus Ezeli down low is what is making this team a real threat as the year goes along. Vanderbilt is knocking down nearly 40% of their three-point shots so far this year.

Betting Trends:

Under is 9-2 in TENN last 11 overall.
Under is 37-15-1 in TENN last 53 road games.
Under is 34-16-1 in TENN last 51 vs. Southeastern.
Over is 19-9 in VANDY last 28 vs. Southeastern.
Home team is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
Under is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.

The Pick:

I think Tennessee will come with a sense of urgency, but I really do believe Vanderbilt is the better team. The Commodores can put up the points in bunches, especially at home. I think the over is the best play on the board here.

Prediction: Vanderbilt 78 Tennessee 70
