NCAA Basketball Betting – Orange vs. Red Storm

Madison Square Garden will be rocking on Saturday afternoon as the St. John’s goes up against Syracuse in Big East action.

Too add to the drama, Cuse’ center Fab Melo has been reinstated back into a lineup that went 2-1 without him, suffering its lone loss to the Irish, 67-58, on Jan. 21.

Date/Time: 12:00 PM ET, Saturday, February 4, 2012
Venue: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
Broadcast: ESPN
Spread: OFF
Over/Under: OFF

The 7-foot sophomore sat out the past three games, at Notre Dame and Cincinnati and at home against West Virginia on Saturday while resolving an academic issue. Melo is averaging 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and leads the second-ranked Orange with 60 blocked shots, and his presence in the middle has been missed.

He will definitely be a boost to an Orange (22-1, 9-1) crew that is already potent, and although they hold a three-game advantage for 1st place in the Big East, will be aiming to maintain their #2 AP ranking with a big win here.

In 20 games with their big forward Syracuse averaged 80 points and had a rebounding differential of +26. In three games without Melo the Orange averaged 60 points and were -34 in rebounding margin. Including their loss to the Irish where they were outrebounded 38-25, while being held to just 58 points. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Meanwhile, the Red Storm (10-12, 4-6) are struggling and in 10th place in the Big East.

They have won just two of their last six games, including an 87-81, in conference play win in hostile territory over the De Paul Blue Demons on Wednesday. The Red Storm are a beatable team playing on the road, but the Blue Demons hadn’t been playing well, dropping 4 of its last 5.

Once again D`Angelo Harrison led all scoring against the Blue Demons with 29 points with 21 of those points coming from three-point range.

He has now recorded four straight double-digit point games and has led the team in scoring in 8 out of 22 games this season..

Harrison will be St. John’s counter to Melo. And if he has another good game, could give the Orange fits from the perimeter.

Free Pick: Syracuse- Syracuse has won four of its last five games, but can’t forget last year’s 76-51 drubbing they received from St. John’s. Over the last four years, the Red Storm have a record of 5-1 with a record of 3-0 at Allstate Arena, but with Melo and Cuse’ on a roll, I just don’t think home court advantage will be enough in this one.
